Slated to undergo surgery Chapman (hip) was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday and will undergo surgery, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Impact Chapman has been sidelined for the past seven games while dealing with right hip tendinitis, and he'll miss the remainder of the season as a result. The 27-year-old had started all but one of the Athletics' games prior to his injury, slashing .232/.276/.535 with 10 home runs and 25 RBI. Whether he'll be ready for spring training in 2021 remains to be seen. Seth Brown was recalled in a corresponding move, while Chad Pinder and Vimael Machin should see playing time at third base in Chapman's absence.

Continues to sit Chapman will sit for the seventh straight game with right hip tendinitis Saturday against Texas.
Impact Chapman still hasn't been placed on the injured list, though if he had been when he first suffered the injury, he'd be eligible to return next Thursday. Given that he's still yet to resume baseball activities and doesn't have a timeline to do so, it's quite possible he won't return before that date. Vimael Machin will serve as the third baseman Saturday.

No timetable for ramp up There are no plans for Chapman (hip) to do any baseball activities in the near future, although the Athletics are maintaining he did not suffer any setbacks, Shayna Rubin of The Sa...
Impact A report from John Hickey of SI.com on Tuesday suggested Chapman would start baseball-related activities Wednesday, but the A's are saying that was never the plan. The latest reports suggest Chapman won't be back this weekend, at which point it may make sense for Oakland to place him on the injured list. He suffered a right hip strain Sept. 6. Chad Pinder is starting at third base and batting eighth Thursday.

Athletics in action against the Astros after Luzardo's solid performance

Oakland looks to follow up a strong showing by Wednesday starter Jesus Luzardo
SEPTEMBER 10, 2020 • Associated Press
Yet to resume baseball activities Chapman (hip) didn't resume baseball activities Wednesday and may not do so Thursday, Alex Coffey of The Athletic reports.
Impact Manager Bob Melvin didn't indicate the 27-year-old suffered a setback with the right hip tendinitis, but something changed as he was previously expected to participate in baseball activities Wednesday. Chapman doesn't have an official timeline for his return but seems likely to be sidelined for at least another couple games.

Resuming activity Wednesday Chapman (hip) will resume baseball activities Wednesday, John Hickey of SI.com reports.
Impact Chapman is dealing with right hip tendinitis, but he'll test things out Wednesday. He didn't rule out a return by Thursday, but his timetable likely depends on how he feels after participating in baseball activities. Chad Pinder is taking over at third base for Tuesday's matinee.

No injured list trip expected Chapman was diagnosed with right hip tendonitis Monday but is not expected to head to the injured list, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Impact Chapman suffered the injury, which was originally called a strain, Sunday against San Diego. It remains unclear when exactly he'll return, but that should happen within the next few days. Tommy La Stella will serve as the third baseman Monday, with Tony Kemp starting at second base.

Sits as expected Chapman (hip) is out of the lineup as expected Monday against the Astros.
Impact Chapman isn't expected to return before Wednesday after suffering a hip strain Sunday against the Padres. Whether or not he'll require a trip to the injured list remains to be seen. Tommy La Stella will be the third baseman Monday.

Impact Oakland hasn't disclosed the results of the MRI that Chapman underwent on the strained right hip he sustained in Sunday's series finale with the Padres, but the injury is apparently considered serious enough to sideline him for the next two days. For now, the Athletics are hopeful a couple days of rest will be enough for Chapman to move past the hip issue, but a stint on the injured list isn't being ruled out for the slick-fielding third baseman. Chad Pinder or Tommy La Stella should serve as the primary replacements at the hot corner until Chapman is deemed ready to go.
