Traded to Texas Mathias and Antoine Kelly were traded to the Rangers from the Brewers on Monday in exchange for Matt Bush, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Impact Mathias had been with the Brewers since 2020, but he could not find his way onto the big-league roster despite posting a .939 OPS at the Triple-A level, so he was dealt for bullpen help. Mathias could get more opportunities with the Rangers the rest of the way.

Impact Mathias provided infield depth for the Brewers over the last few weeks but saw sporadic playing time. He's hit just .125 with a homer, four RBI, two runs and a stolen base over six major-league games this year and should see more consistent at-bats in the minors. Mike Brosseau (ankle) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday.

Impressive return to majors Mathias went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a stolen base in Saturday's 8-6 loss to the Nationals.

Impact Getting the start at second base and hitting ninth, Mathias helped spark a rally from an 8-1 deficit in the seventh inning when he took Patrick Corbin deep, but the Brewers ran out of time to tie things up. The 27-year-old has been extremely productive for Triple-A Nashville this season, slashing .325/.426/.526 through 34 games, but Saturday's homer and steal were his first for Milwaukee in three games as he's bounced on and off the roster. With Kolten Wong (calf) on the shelf, however, Mathias might get a chance to carve out a regular role in the majors in the short term.

Impact Mathias appeared in a couple games for the Brewers in late May before heading back to Nashville, but he was brought back Saturday to take the roster spot of Kolten Wong (calf), who landed on the injured list. Mathias will provide infield depth for the Brewers until Wong is ready to return.

Impact Mathias was unable to earn a spot on Milwaukee's Opening Day roster, but he'll join the big-league club Tuesday with Hunter Renfroe headed to the injured list.
