Parts ways with O's The Orioles released Diplan on Aug. 6.
Impact Diplan was cut loose after Triple-A Norfolk needed to make room on its pitching staff for left-handed prospect Kevin Smith, who was promoted from Double-A Bowie earlier this month. Before being cast off Baltimore's 40-man roster in July, Diplan made five appearances out of the big-league bullpen this season and gave up one earned run over 5.2 innings.
AUGUST 23, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Clears waivers The Orioles outrighted Diplan to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday.
Impact Diplan will stick in the organization after he went unclaimed upon being exposed to waivers a few days earlier. Prior to being cast off Baltimore's 40-man roster, Diplan made five appearances out of the big-league bullpen this season and gave up an earned run while striking out eight over 5.2 innings.
JULY 10, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Cast off 40-man roster Diplan was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Wednesday.
Impact After being sent down by the Orioles on June 25, the right-hander will lose his spot on the 40-man roster since the Orioles claimed left-hander Kirk McCarty off waivers from the Guardians on Wednesday. Diplan will likely remain in the organization if he goes unclaimed on waivers.
JULY 6, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Sent back down Diplan was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday.
Impact Diplan was recalled by the Orioles on Friday, but he didn't appear out of the bullpen during his brief stint in the majors. He'll head back to Norfolk, where he's posted a 0.87 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 20.2 innings over 15 relief appearances.
JUNE 25, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Recalled by Orioles Diplan was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.
Impact Diplan was sent down in early June, and he posted a 1.13 ERA and 1.63 WHIP in eight innings over four relief appearances in the minors following his demotion. The right-hander has posted a 1.59 ERA and 1.59 WHIP in 5.2 innings over five appearances for the Orioles this year, and he should serve mainly as a low-leverage reliever now that he's back with the major-league club.
JUNE 24, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Optioned to Triple-A Diplan was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Impact Diplan spent just under two weeks in the Orioles' bullpen, and he allowed a run on two hits and five walks while striking out eight in 5.1 innings over four appearances during his time with the major-league club. However, he hadn't pitched since May 31 and should see more consistent work in the minors.
JUNE 5, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Recalled by Orioles Diplan was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.
Impact Diplan returned to the minors in mid-April, and he's posted a 0.71 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 12.2 innings over 11 relief appearances in Norfolk this year. He'll rejoin the Orioles' bullpen after Mike Baumann was sent down Monday. In spite of Diplan's minor-league success, he'll likely pitch mainly in low-leverage situations for Baltimore.
MAY 23, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Returns to minors Diplan was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday.
Impact Diplan had his contract selected by Baltimore on Sunday and will return to the minors after allowing an unearned run on two hits over one-third of an inning during his lone appearance. The 25-year-old will be in the mix to be recalled when the Orioles require bullpen depth throughout the season.
APRIL 20, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Gets big-league call The Orioles selected Diplan's contract from Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports.
Impact In order to open up space on the 40-man roster and 28-man active roster for Diplan, the Orioles placed John Means (forearm) on the 60-day injured list and optioned Alexander Wells to Norfolk. Diplan will step into the bullpen as a replacement for Wells, who likely wouldn't have been available for the next couple of days after covering two innings out of the bullpen in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Yankees. Expect Diplan to work mostly in lower-leverage or mop-up spots out of the bullpen while he's with the Orioles.
APRIL 17, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Returns to Orioles Diplan agreed to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training with the Orioles on Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Impact Diplan spent the 2021 season in the Orioles' organization, and he split his time between the big-league club and Triple-A Norfolk. He pitched exclusively out of the bullpen and posted a 4.50 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with a 24:15 K:BB across 30 innings for Baltimore. While he'll begin spring training off the 40-man roster, he should have the opportunity to earn a roster spot if he can perform well in spring training.
NOVEMBER 19, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Hits free agency Diplan elected free agency Friday after being outrighted to Triple-A by the Orioles, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.
Impact Baltimore removed Diplan from the 40-man roster, and he'll become a free agent after refusing the outright assignment to Triple-A. The right-hander appeared in 23 big-league games during 2021 and had a 4.50 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 24:15 K:BB over 30 innings.

Impact The right-hander allowed a solo home run to Hunter Renfroe in the sixth inning that put Boston ahead 2-0. Baltimore then rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to put Diplan in line for his second win this year. The 25-year-old has given up just one run in his last eight innings. For the year, he owns a 4.23 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 23:14 K:BB across 27.2 innings, mainly in a low-leverage role.

Impact Diplan was sent back to Norfolk after allowing two runs on two hits and two walks in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against Toronto. Logs two perfect innings Diplan struck out one across two perfect innings in Friday's 6-3 loss to Tampa Bay.
Impact While the right-hander's hot start came to an end when he allowed four earned runs across two appearances spanning 1.1 innings against the Angels, Diplan got back on track Friday. The 24-year-old has a 2.51 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 14:4 K:BB through 14.1 innings. He's provided multi-inning capabilities out of the bullpen, but he'll likely remain in a low-leverage role for the remainder of 2021.
AUGUST 28, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Making strong first impression Diplan has allowed just one walk while striking out six in his first 6.1 big-league innings.
Impact The right-hander had his contract selected from Triple-A Norfolk on Aug. 4, and he's provided some quality low-leverage innings out of the bullpen. Diplan carried a 4.12 ERA and 1.67 WHIP through 19.2 innings at Norfolk, so his success in the majors is a little surprising. For now, he appears to have solidified his spot in the Orioles' major-league plans.
