INJURIES

Getting first day off Thursday Keaschall is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Tigers.
Impact It's the first day off this season for Keaschall, who has reached base five times and driven in four runs in the first three games of the series. Kody Clemens will get the start at second base and slot into the six spot in the lineup as the Twins go for the sweep.

Swipes second bag Keaschall went 1-for-5 with one RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Wednesday's 8-6 win over the Tigers.
Impact Keaschall has plated at least one run in three straight games, going 3-for-12 over the first three contests of this week's series against the Tigers. The second baseman is hitting just .208 with a .556 OPS through 53 plate appearances over 12 games this season. He's added two steals, one home run, seven RBI, six runs scored and two doubles. Keaschall hit .302 with an .827 OPS over 49 games across two big-league stints in 2025, so there's some clear potential for him to turn things around. He may still need to adjust to major-league pitching a bit, which will make it tough for him to replicate his ratios from last year, but he has good bat-to-ball skills.

Drives first homer of campaign Keaschall went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, an additional run scored and two walks in Monday's win over the Tigers.
Impact Keaschall provided the Twins with a lead they wouldn't relinquish, launching his first homer of the campaign in the bottom of the fourth inning by turning on a Casey Mize fastball and sending it into the left-field bleachers. It's been a slow start to the year for the second baseman, who entered Monday's contest slashing .222/.256/.250 through nine games. After posting an .827 OPS across 49 games as a rookie in 2025, Keaschall entered 2026 with moderately high expectations and will look to find his stride moving forward.

Used as No. 3 hitter Keaschall went 1-for-4 with a walk in Sunday's loss at Baltimore and is hitting .182 (2-for11) this season. He's hit third in the batting order in all three games this season.
Impact Keaschall may be better suited to hit leadoff in Minnesota's lineup due to his high OBP (.382 last season), but new Twins manager Derek Shelton went with a platoon of Austin Martin and Kody Clemens in the leadoff role to begin the season. While Keaschall plaeyd some outfield in spring training, he's only played second base so far this season.

First outfield action since 2024 Keaschall is starting Thursday's Grapefruit League contest in left field, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.
Impact It's notable because it marks the first time Keaschall will play the outfield since undergoing elbow surgery in 2024. The 23-year-old made his major-league debut last season and only played second base if he wasn't slotted in as the designated hitter. While Keaschall is expected to man the keystone for Minnesota, position versatility will allow Minnesota to keep Keaschall's bat in the lineup after he slashed .302/.382/.445 with four home runs, 28 RBI, 25 runs scored, 14 stolen bases and a 19:29 BB:K across 207 plate appearances last season.

Starting Saturday's exhibition Keaschall (thumb) will start at second base and bat second in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox.
Impact A left thumb injury ended Keaschall's 2025 season and required surgery in October, but he is ready to roll this spring. While he didn't flash a ton of over-the-fence pop as a rookie with four homers in 49 games, Keaschall displayed an intriguing combination of contact, gap power and speed. The 23-year-old projects as Minnesota's starting second baseman to begin 2026.

Lands on IL with sprained thumb The Twins placed Keaschall on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a left thumb sprain.
Impact Keaschall suffered the season-ending injury during Tuesday's game against the Rangers while stealing second base. He'll visit with a specialist next week to determine whether surgery is necessary. Even if an operation is required, Keaschall should be fine by the time spring training rolls around. The rookie finishes his promising first season with a .302/.382/.445 batting line with four home runs and 14 steals over 207 plate appearances.
