Playing days over Farrell announced Sept. 27 via his personal Instagram account that he has retired from professional baseball.

Impact After being released from his minor-league contract with the Nationals in July, Farrell had most recently pitched in the Mexican League to close out the 2024 season. Before his stint south of the border, the 33-year-old right-hander had seen MLB action over parts of six seasons from 2017 through 2022 with the Royals, Reds, Cubs, Rangers and Twins. In 69 career appearances (seven starts), Farrell turned in a 5.00 ERA and 1.49 WHIP across 102.2 innings.

Outrighted to Triple-A Farrell cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Saturday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Impact Farrell was designated for assignment by Cincinnati on Thursday and will choose to accept an outright assignment rather than testing free agency. He made 17 appearances (11 starts) at Triple-A Iowa earlier this year and posted a 5.03 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 59 innings.
