The 23-year-old righty made his final three appearances at Triple-A as a reliever and will work out of the bullpen to begin his time with Washington. He could be called upon to cover multiple frames in relief in Wednesday's game against the Rockies, as starter Matt Waldron isn't fully stretched out and could be operating as a glorified opener.

Impact The Nationals believed earlier this month that Perales was on the verge of breaking into the majors, and he will now get his opportunity after posting a 3.64 ERA and 1.30 WHIP over 96.1 innings at Triple-A. The 23-year-old righty has worked primarily as a starter this season but will likely begin his MLB career in the bullpen after pitching two innings or fewer in each of his last four minor-league outings. He'll replace Jake Bird on the active roster.

Impact Acquired from Boston in the offseason, Perales had a bumpy start to the season after completing his recovery from Tommy John surgery, but over his last eight starts for Triple-A Rochester he's put together a 2.79 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 41:25 K:BB in 38.2 innings. The 23-year-old right-hander is still working to improve his control and his stamina, but Perales has elite raw stuff headlined by a four-seamer that averaged 98.5 mph and a split-finger pitch that's generated a 42.2 percent whiff rate in 2026. A late-season stint with the Nationals would put Perales on track to win a spot in the rotation next spring.

Impact It's a prospect-for-prospect trade. Perales missed a large chunk of 2024 and nearly all of 2025 while recovering from Tommy John surgery, but he's wowed with his stuff since returning, regularly reaching triple digits with his fastball. The 22-year-old has thrown a total of 9.2 innings beyond A-ball and has a career 12.3 percent walk rate in the minors, but Perales' upside is huge.

Impact Perales, who underwent Tommy John surgery in July of 2024, logged a total of 2.1 innings across Double-A and Triple-A, with his first appearance coming Sept. 13. His numbers aren't pretty in this tiny sample (7.71 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 4:3 K:BB), but Perales' stuff is all the way back and then some, with his fastball not only offering premium velocity but elite movement. He leans heavily on his nasty 90-mph cutter and also mixes in a mid-80s slider, so it's a power arsenal in small package -- Perales is listed at 6-foot-1, 160 pounds. He only has 8.1 career innings at Double-A and 1.1 innings at Triple-A, so it's unclear which of the upper-minors levels Perales will be assigned to in 2026, but on pure upside, he's up there with any pitcher who has yet to reach the majors.
