Misses out on Opening Day roster The Mets reassigned De Los Santos to minor-league camp Monday.

Impact De Los Santos' chances of making the Opening Day roster might have increased slightly after the Jeff McNeil suffered an oblique strain last week that will force him to the injured list to begin the season, but the 26-year-old still found himself behind Brett Baty, Luisangel Acuna and Donovan Walton in the competition for spot in New York's infield. He's expected to begin the 2025 season at Triple-A Syracuse, where he could receive everyday at-bats while moving around the infield.

Outrighted to Syracuse De Los Santos cleared waivers Wednesday and was sent outright to Triple-A Syracuse, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Impact De Los Santos, 26, slashed .260/.375/.441 with 16 RBI across 152 plate appearances with Toronto's Triple-A affiliate last season. His minor-league success failed to translate into the majors, however, as he went 5-for-29 at the plate in 13 games with the Blue Jays.

Impact De Los Santos was claimed off waivers by the Mets on Nov. 4 after being let go by the Blue Jays. He spent most of the 2024 season at Triple-A Buffalo, where he slashed .260/375./.441 with six home runs and 16 RBI over 152 plate appearances. De Los Santos was brought in to compete for spot on the Mets' roster for the 2025 campaign, but his removal from the 40-man roster is to make room for Nick Madrigal, who signed a one-year, $1.35 million contract Friday.

Headed back to Triple-A De Los Santos is expected to be optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Monday, Julia Kreuz of MLB.com reports.

Impact De Los Santos secured his first career major-league hit in Sunday's 8-4 loss against the Athletics, finishing his day 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. He will now head back to Triple-A as Toronto continues to evaluate the talent they have in their lower levels.
