Quality start in win Castillo (3-6) earned the win against the Guardians on Friday, giving up one earned run on four hits and a walk while striking out four batters across six innings.
Impact A first-inning RBI double from Kahlil Watson gave the Guardians an early 1-0 lead, but that ended up being the only run Cleveland would score against Castillo, who allowed just three additional baserunners before departing the game after six innings. Friday marked the 33-year-old's first win since the end of May, as well as his first quality start since his season debut March 30. He'll take a 4.93 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in to his next start against the Angels, who have turned in a .758 OPS since the beginning of June.

Roughed up in relief outing Castillo allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits and struck out four without walking a batter over four innings of relief in Friday's 6-2 loss to the Red Sox.
Impact Castillo wasn't tagged with the loss, as that went to Bryce Miller. The Mariners' offense didn't give much support to either pitcher, but Castillo didn't do his part to keep the game close after a four-run seventh inning. He has now allowed 11 runs (seven earned) across 15.1 innings in June. Both Castillo and Miller are expected to work in traditional starts at some point during the Mariners' six-game road trip next week.

Following Miller on Friday Castillo will piggyback with starter Bryce Miller during Friday's game against the Red Sox, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact Castillo and Miller have frequently worked in tandem this season, but Friday's piggyback game will be the result of the Mariners' new plan to move to a schedule in which all six of their starters will rotate through and have piggyback days. It's unclear who the next pairing will be after Miller/Castillo, though both pitchers will presumably have plenty of chances to make traditional starts after Friday.

Fans four in sixth loss Castillo (2-6) took the loss Saturday against the Nationals, allowing five runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks in 5.2 innings. He struck out four.
Impact A throwing error by Josh Naylor kept three earned runs of Castillo's ledger, but Washington got to the hurler for two more runs in the fifth frame. The 33-year-old right-hander has worked at least four innings while yielding two earned runs or fewer in four consecutive outings, so he's performing a bit better as of late. Castillo will try to further improve on a 5.00 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 65:25 K:BB over 66.2 innings into his next scheduled appearance against Boston.

Yields one run in no-decision Castillo did not factor into Sunday's decision against the Tigers, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out five across 5.2 innings.
Impact Castillo had worked behind Bryce Miller in each of his three prior outings, but the former was on the mound for the start of Sunday's series finale. Castillo limited the Tigers to just three baserunners across five-plus innings while inducing 12 whiffs, and he reached 100 pitches for the third time this season. He now sits at a 5.16 ERA and 1.36 WHIP across 61 innings, and his next appearance is slated for next weekend on the road against the Nationals.

Tigers and Mariners play with series tied 1-1

Both the Detroit Tigers and the Seattle Mariners are looking for a series win with a victory on Sunday
JUNE 7 • Associated Press
Receiving start Sunday Castillo is slated to start Sunday's game against the Tigers, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact Castillo and Bryce Miller worked in tandem in each of the previous three turns through the rotation, but both pitchers will receive standalone starts during the final two games of the series in Detroit. Though he currently maintains an ugly 5.53 ERA and 1.45 WHIP on the season, Castillo took some steps forward over his last two outings, covering nine innings between a start and relief appearance behind Miller while striking out nine batters and yielding two runs (one earned) on four hits and four walks. Mariners manager Dan Wilson hasn't outlined his plans for the rotation beyond this weekend, so Castillo could need another positive showing in Detroit to avoid falling back into a piggyback arrangement with Miller or shifting into a full-time bullpen role.
