Kirby Yates - Struggling during rehab stint Yates (knee) has made three minor-league rehab outings since April 17, giving up a combined seven runs on seven hits while posting a 5:1 K:BB over three innings.
Impact Yates' rehab appearances have been spread out, as he's had at least two days off between each outing. The veteran reliever has given up at least one run in each of his one-inning appearances and has served up two homers across his three frames. It's not clear how long the Angels plan to keep Yates on his rehab assignment, and his struggles may not be helping his cause for rejoining the big-league roster in short order. After Jordan Romano was designated for assignment Sunday, the Angels' closer situation is extremely murky, and Yates is a clear candidate to take on the role given his 98 career regular-season saves. However, the club may want to see Yates put together some better outings before feeling comfortable handing him the ball in the ninth inning of close contests.

Josh Lowe - Knocks three hits Sunday Lowe went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Sunday's 11-9 extra-inning loss to the Royals.
Impact Lowe was lifted for a pinch runner in the seventh inning, with Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register noting that the outfielder may have tweaked his calf. However, Fletcher added that it might have been a planned replacement, and the Angels didn't provide an update on Lowe after the game, so it's safe to assume he's fine until information to the contrary surfaces. Lowe's big game lifted his average to .188 on the year, and he's added a .583 OPS, three home runs, nine RBI, six runs scored and a stolen base across 77 plate appearances. Impact This was Neto's first multi-hit effort over his last eight games. The shortstop has gone 7-for-30 (.233) in that span, though he has added four doubles, four RBI and three stolen bases. For the season, he's batting .243 with an .803 OPS, five home runs, eight doubles, four steals, 14 RBI and 21 runs scored across 29 contests. Neto has also drawn 20 walks so far, which has helped him function effectively as a leadoff hitter.

Impact Pomeranz was brought into a tough spot after Brent Suter allowed a two-out RBI single to Salvador Perez. The switch didn't work out, as Jac Caglianone tied the game with a two-run home run, sticking Pomeranz with his first blown save of the season. Over 11 appearances, Pomeranz has a 7.84 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 7:5 K:BB through 10.1 innings. The Angels designated Jordan Romano for assignment Sunday, but Pomeranz's performance has hardly been encouraging in the late innings. Kirby Yates (knee) is on a rehab assignment and would likely get the chance to close once he's off the injured list, relegating Pomeranz back to a set-up role if he can keep his spot on the major-league roster. Ben Joyce (shoulder) could also be in the long-term mix for saves, but he is still working his way back from a torn labrum.
