Impact Chad Wallach will start at catcher and bat ninth as the Angels take on left-handed opener Scott Alexander, who is expected to be followed by fellow southpaw Alex Wood. Thaiss, a left-handed hitter, continues to draw the large majority of his playing time versus righties.

Mike Trout - Makes more progress Trout (wrist) recently progressed to hitting soft toss, per MLB.com.
Impact Trout has been ramping up his activity in the past two weeks, taking "really light, dry swings" with a fungo bat July 26, advancing to dry swings with a regular bat five days later and subsequently progressing to hitting soft toss. The star outfielder has been out of action since suffering a hamate bone fracture in his left hand July 3, and he underwent surgery soon thereafter. Now that he's taking contact swings, Trout isn't expected to need a long ramp-up period before he returns to the big-league squad.

Logan O'Hoppe - Beginning rehab stint Tuesday O'Hoppe (shoulder) said Monday that he's starting a rehab assignment with Single-A Inland Empire on Tuesday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Impact Angels manager Phil Nevin stated last Wednesday that O'Hoppe was on track to start his rehab stint the following week, and that has come to fruition with the catcher joining the Single-A club Tuesday. O'Hoppe hasn't seen any game action since suffering a torn labrum in a game April 20, and he's expected to need most or all of the 20-day rehab window before he's ready to return to the big club.

Impact Soriano got the eighth frame in a game that the Angels led 3-2 at the time. The right-hander got the job done, retiring the side in order on 12 pitches, but closer Carlos Estevez melted down in the ninth as San Francisco came back for the win. Manager Phil Nevin hasn't hesitated to use Soriano in a high-leverage role throughout his rookie campaign, as the reliever has tallied 10 holds in 21 appearances. Impact Thaiss hit a big solo shot in the seventh inning to tie the game 2-2, but the Mariners ended up pulling out the win in the the 10th frame. The long ball was Thaiss's first since July 18, a span of 13 games.
