Chad Wallach - Outrighted to Triple-A Wallach was outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday.
Impact Wallach was designated for assignment by the Angels on Friday and will remain with the organization after going unclaimed on waivers. Over 89 games with the Triple-A club last year, he hit .219 with nine home runs, 43 RBI, 40 runs and three steals.

Jordyn Adams - Sent down Sunday Adams was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday.
Impact Adams was called up by the Angels in early August, but he had inconsistent playing time and went just 2-for-14 with six strikeouts in 10 games during his first taste of major-league action. Mike Trout (wrist) is closing in on a return from the injured list, so Adams will head back to the minors.

Angels vs. Reds Prediction, Odds, Picks - August 21
Mike Trout - Moving closer to return Trout (wrist) took swings in an indoor batting cage Saturday and is "very close to returning," per the Associated Press.
Impact Trout progressed to facing live pitching Thursday and experienced some soreness afterward, but he went right back to swinging a bat Saturday. That bodes well for his chances of being activated from the injured list in the near future, perhaps as soon as Monday, when the Angels are slated to start a three-game home set versus Cincinnati. The team is taking a "wait-and-see" approach with Trout for the time being, per MLB.com, with manager Phil Nevin calling the slugger's status "a day-to-day thing."
AUGUST 20, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Jaime BarrĂa - Blasted for nine runs Barria gave up nine runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out three batters over 2.1 innings in a loss to the Rays in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday.
Impact Angels starter Patrick Sandoval had a rough outing of his own, and Los Angeles was already down 6-0 when Barria entered in the bottom of the fifth. Things got much worse for the team when Barria surrendered seven runs in the following frame, but manager Phil Nevin let the right-hander take his lumps, keeping him in the contest for another inning, during which he allowed two more runs. While the first two knocks the Rays notched against Barria were infield singles, the veteran gave up plenty of hard contact as well and served up three homers. He's been tagged for 13 runs over 3.1 frames across his past two outings, raising his ERA from 3.86 all the way up to 5.32.
AUGUST 20, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Griffin Canning - Works in bulk relief again Canning (7-4) earned the win over Tampa Bay in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out five batters over 3.1 innings.
Impact Chase Silseth started the contest for the Angels but couldn't get through the fourth inning, giving up three runs in that frame and five overall. Canning entered with two on and two out and got Randy Arozarena to ground out to end the threat, then tossed three more innings, during which he gave up just one run on a Jonathan Aranda solo homer. Canning looked good in the outing, racking up 10 swinging strikes among 52 pitches and punching out five Rays. It was the second straight time that he has thrown in long relief since being activated from the injured list Aug. 13, though it's not clear if that will be the norm for him moving forward or if Canning will eventually move back into the rotation.
AUGUST 20, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Hunter Renfroe - Belts solo homer Saturday Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Game 2 of a doubleheader split with Tampa Bay on Saturday.
Impact Renfroe didn't start Game 1, though he logged one plate appearance and struck out as a pinch hitter. The outfielder attempted to get the Angels into the game with a solo shot in the fifth inning of Game 2, though the Rays ultimately poured on the offense in an 18-4 rout. Renfroe's long ball was his first over 18 games in August, and he's batting a paltry .197 (12-for-61) with just five RBI and a 2:19 BB:K this month.
AUGUST 20, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Brandon Drury - Homers twice in doubleheader Drury went 4-for-8 with two home runs, a walk, three total runs and four total RBI in Saturday's doubleheader split versus the Rays.
Impact Drury knocked a big solo homer in Game 1 that provided what proved to be the decisive run, then belted a late three-run shot in a landslide loss in Game 2. The pair of long balls came on the heels of a poor start to August during which the infielder had slashed .192/.192/.308 with just one home run over 13 games. Drury is now up to 17 long balls on the season, three away from the second 20-homer campaign of his nine-year career.

Patrick Sandoval - Falters in loss Saturday Sandoval (6-10) took the loss against Tampa Bay in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader, allowing six runs (two earned) on seven hits and three walks while striking out four batters o...
Impact Sandoval got through three scoreless frames before he yielded two runs on two hits in the fourth. Those were the only two earned runs he surrendered -- when the Rays put up four runs against him in the fifth, they were all unearned due to a two-out error by Jordyn Adams. Still, Sandoval can't be entirely absolved of blame since he gave up four consecutive hits (including two doubles) following Adams' miscue. This was the second straight disappointing outing for the lefty hurler, as he gave up five runs (four earned) over 2.2 frames in his previous start. Prior to the pair of poor performances, Sandoval appeared to be putting things together with a 1.86 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 27:14 :BB over 29 innings across a five-game stretch.
AUGUST 20, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Reynaldo LĂłpez - Notches second save as Angel Lopez earned a save over the Rays in the first game of a twin bill Saturday, allowing one hit and striking out two batters over one scoreless inning.
Impact Angels closer Carlos Estevez has struggled of late, though his lack of usage in a save situation in the matinee of the doubleheader was probably due to him throwing 43 pitches over 1.2 frames while taking the loss Friday. Lopez thus assumed closer duties with Los Angeles up a run in the ninth inning, and he worked around a leadoff single to secure the save. It was his second save in nine games since joining the Angels on July 26, and he's given up only two runs while posting a 16:3 K:BB across 9.2 frames during that stretch. There's no indication that Estevez has lost his closing role, but Lopez has pitched well enough since joining the team to take over ninth-inning duties if manager Phil Nevin does eventually decide to go in a different direction.
AUGUST 20, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Chase Silseth - Struggles in Saturday start Silseth allowed five runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four batters over 3.2 innings in a no-decision in Game 1 of a doubleheader against Tampa Bay on Saturday.
Impact Though Silseth fell behind by two runs in the first frame, the Angels bounced back to give him a 6-2 lead through three innings. The right-hander couldn't take advantage, however, as he was lifted with two outs in the fourth. Silseth surrendered three runs on four hits and a walk in that frame, with two of the knocks against him leaving the park. The 23-year-old nailed down a spot in the rotation on the strength of a four-start stretch between July 19 and Aug. 13 during which he posted a 1.59 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 31:5 K:BB across 22.2 innings. Saturday's poor outing probably won't lead to him leaving the rotation, though it's worth noting that Griffin Canning -- who has come out of the bullpen in each of his past two appearances after starting in each of his initial 16 contests this season -- took the win Saturday as a result of giving up just one run over 3.1 frames.

Jimmy Herget - Sent back to Salt Lake Herget was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake following Saturday's doubleheader with Tampa Bay.
Impact Herget will return to Salt Lake after getting called to serve as the team's 27th man Saturday. The right-hander appeared in Game 2 of the doubleheader, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out two batters over one inning in the team's 18-4 loss.

Mickey Moniak - Sitting Game 2 Moniak is not in the starting lineup for Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader with the Rays, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
Impact Moniak will head to the bench after he went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base before getting pinch hit for in the eighth inning of the team's 7-6 Game 1 win. Jordyn Adams will take over in center field and bat ninth in the nightcap with Tampa Bay.

Hunter Renfroe - On bench for Game 1 Renfroe will sit for the first half of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rays.
Impact Renfroe has been in a slump since the end of July, slashing .183/.234/.250 in 17 games, but he did manage to grab a pair of hits in Friday's series opener. Luis Rengifo starts in right field for the Saturday afternoon game, but Renfroe could return to the lineup for the evening contest.
AUGUST 19, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Logan O'Hoppe - Resting during afternoon game O'Hoppe will be on the bench for the first half of Saturday's doubleheader against Tampa Bay, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Impact O'Hoppe returned Friday from a shoulder injury which at one point seemed likely to keep him out for the entire season. The Angels are no doubt thrilled to have the young catcher back in action, but he was never going to be asked to start two games in one day even if he hadn't just returned from injury. Matt Thaiss starts behind the plate in the matinee, but O'Hoppe will likely return to the lineup for the nightcap.
AUGUST 19, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Jimmy Herget - Called up as 27th man Herget joined the Angels' bullpen as the 27th man for Saturday's doubleheader against the Rays.
Impact Herget has thrown 16 major-league innings this season, struggling to a 5.06 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. That's a far cry from his performance last season, when he cruised to a 2.48 ERA and 0.91 WHIP while earning nine saves.
AUGUST 19, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Logan O'Hoppe - Hitless in return O'Hoppe went 0-for-5 in a loss to the Rays on Friday.
Impact O'Hoppe made a quicker-than-expected return to the majors Friday following a stay on the 60-day injured list due to a torn labrum in his left shoulder. The 23-year-old showed some rust with the hitless performance, though that shouldn't prevent him from working as the Angels' primary catcher moving forward. The team designated Chad Wallach for assignment upon O'Hoppe's return, and backup backstop Matt Thaiss has struggled thus far in August, going 4-for-31 at the plate.
AUGUST 19, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Nolan Schanuel - Reaches twice in MLB debut Schanuel went 1-for-4 with a walk and scored twice in Friday's loss to Tampa Bay.
Impact After being recalled from the minors Friday, Schanuel was slotted into the leadoff spot in his big-league debut. He struck out in his first plate appearance but followed with an eight-pitch, two-out walk in the second that loaded the bases for Shohei Ohtani, who proceeded to hit a grand slam. Schanuel later singled in the seventh for his first MLB hit and came around to score on a Brandon Drury double. The rookie will likely get plenty of opportunity to play while up in the majors, at least for as long as C.J. Cron (back) remains on the injured list.
AUGUST 19, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Tyler Anderson - Yields five runs Anderson allowed five runs on six hits and two walks over four-plus innings in Friday's loss to the Rays. He struck out three and did not factor in the decision.
Impact Anderson gave up one run through three innings before the Rays broke through with a three-run fourth. He's been charged with 12 runs over his last 8.2 innings, raising his season ERA from 4.92 to 5.50 in the process. His record still sits at 5-4 next to a lackluster 95:49 K:BB through 113 frames. Anderson's next outing is projected to be on the road against the Mets next week.
