Mets bring road skid into matchup with the Mariners

The New York Mets hit the road against the Seattle Mariners looking to stop a three-game road skid
JUNE 1 • Associated Press
Shaky in second rehab start Senga (spine) struck out five and allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks over 3.2 innings in his rehab start Thursday with Triple-A Syracuse.
Impact After making a 3.1-inning, 63-pitch start for Single-A St. Lucie on May 22, Senga jumped up a few levels for the second outing of his rehab assignment. The 33-year-old was able to build up to 80 pitches Thursday and looks to be fully stretched out for a normal starter's workload at this point, but the Mets may want Senga to deliver better results in the minors before bringing him back from the 15-day injured list. Between the two rehab starts, Senga has posted a 5.14 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 7:3 K:BB over seven innings while also tossing two wild pitches and hitting a batter.

Tosses 63 pitches in rehab start Senga (back) gave up two runs on four hits and a walk over 3.1 innings in a rehab start for Single-A St. Lucie on Friday. He struck out two.
Impact While the right-hander's line in the box score wasn't particularly impressive, Senga built up to 63 pitches (36 strikes) in his first rehab start, suggesting his return isn't far away. He landed on the IL after a rough stretch to end April, coughing up 16 earned runs in just 8.1 innings over his last three big-league outings. If he needs only one more rehab start, Senga would be in line to rejoin the Mets' rotation June 2 in Seattle.

Cleared for rehab assignment Senga (back) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A St. Lucie on Friday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact Senga has been throwing at the Mets' spring training complex in Florida and is ready to test things out in a game setting. The 33-year-old right-hander posted a 9.00 ERA in his first five starts before landing on the 15-day injured list in late April with lumbar spine inflammation, so the Mets will want Senga to be look crisp in addition to feeling healthy before they consider re-inserting him into the big-league rotation.

Faces hitters over weekend Senga (back) threw a multi-inning live-batting practice session Sunday, MLB.com reports.
Impact Senga flew to the Mets' facility in Florida to take the next step forward in his recovery process for lumbar spine inflammation, which sent him to the injured list April 28. According to the report, Senga won't advance to game action "until his pitch metrics are in the place that he wants," so he may be more than a week away from beginning a minor-league rehab assignment. Senga had struggled to a 9.00 ERA and 1.95 WHIP over 20 innings in his five starts with the Mets prior to landing on the shelf.
