Clears waivers Miller (elbow) cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Memphis on Thursday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Impact Miller was designated for assignment early in the week, but he'll remain with the Cardinals' organization for now after going unclaimed on waivers. It's not yet clear whether the 34-year-old's right elbow strain -- which he suffered in late September -- will affect his availability for spring training in 2022.

Designated for assignment Miller (elbow) was designated for assignment by the Cardinals on Monday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Impact Miller sustained a right elbow strain late in the 2021 season and was unable to return for the NL Wild Card Game. The right-hander will now lose his spot on the 40-man roster after Jordan Hicks (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Monday. Miller made 23 appearances with the Nationals and Cardinals in 2021 and posted a 6.16 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 19 innings.

Cardinals set team record with 15th straight win, beat Cubs

The St. Louis Cardinals set a franchise record with their 15th straight win, boosted when catcher Yadier Molina and center fielder Harrison Bader helped pull off a wild double play...
SEPTEMBER 25, 2021 • Associated Press
Out with elbow strain Miller landed on the 10-day injured list with a right elbow strain Saturday.
Impact The move ends Miller's regular season, as there are just nine days left on the schedule. He'll close the year with a 6.16 ERA in 19 major-league innings for the National and Cardinals. Whether or not he'll be in the mix to return for the playoffs remains to be seen, though it would have to be a very minor strain for him to make it back by the Wild Card Game.
SEPTEMBER 25, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Earns first season win Miller (1-0) fired a perfect eighth inning, earning the win over the Padres on Saturday.
Impact Miller entered the eighth inning with the Cardinals down a pair of runs. After he retired the side in order, St. Louis took the lead to set up Miller with the win. He has two scoreless appearances since returning from the injured list with an elbow injury. The 36-year-old has a 5.14 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with nine strikeouts in 14 innings this season.
SEPTEMBER 19, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Activated by Cardinals Miller (elbow) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Saturday.
Impact Miller had been on the injured list with right ulnar nerve irritation since Aug. 18, but he recently made a pair of rehab appearances and allowed two runs on three hits and no walks while striking out four in two innings. The right-hander has a 7.80 ERA in the majors this year and should pitch mainly in low-leverage situations.
SEPTEMBER 11, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Expected back Saturday Miller (elbow) is expected to return from the injured list Saturday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Impact Miller has missed nearly a month with a nerve issue in his right elbow. He allowed a run in both of his rehab appearances but is nonetheless considered ready to go. With a 7.80 ERA in 15 major-league innings this season, he's unlikely to receive high-leverage opportunities.
SEPTEMBER 10, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Beginning rehab assignment Miller (elbow) is set to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Impact The right-hander last pitched for the Cardinals on Aug. 15 prior to being placed on the 10-day injured list. Once healthy, he will likely return to serving as a low-leverage reliever for the team as he sports a 7.80 ERA in 19 appearances in the majors this season.
SEPTEMBER 7, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Playing catch Miller (elbow) is progressing well in his recovery and recently began playing catch, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Impact Miller was placed on the injured list with right ulnar nerve irritation last week, but he was able to make a relatively quick return to throwing. The 34-year-old will need to resume mound work before a return timeline will come into focus.
AUGUST 26, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Lands on 10-day injured list Miller was placed on the 10-day injured list with right ulnar nerve irritation Wednesday.
Impact Miller hadn't pitched since Sunday, when he allowed two runs on three hits and no walks while striking out one in a relief inning against the Royals. It's not yet clear whether he'll be forced to spend more than the minimum of 10 days on the shelf, but right-hander Junior Fernandez was recalled to take his place in the bullpen.
AUGUST 18, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Snaps impressive streak Sunday Miller allowed two earned runs on a walk and a hit batsman over one-third of an inning in a win over the Reds on Sunday. He struck out one.
Impact Miller had a rough start to the seventh inning, and he ultimately threw 21 pitches before getting the hook. The veteran right-hander had been in a brief but welcome groove prior to Sunday's outing, stringing together four straight scoreless efforts covering 2.2 frames. Miller has now allowed multiple earned runs in four of 13 appearances, leading to an ugly 9.72 ERA and 1.44 WHIP across 8.1 innings.
JULY 26, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Earns first save of season Miller picked up the save against San Francisco on Tuesday. He retired both batters he faced in the ninth inning.
Impact With usual closer Alex Reyes having pitched each of the previous two days, the Cardinals went to Genesis Cabrera to close out the contest while nursing a one-run ninth-inning lead. Cabrera yielded a hit and a walk to his first two batters, and Miller was then brought in with runners on the corners and one out. The right-hander pulled off the save by inducing a popout and a flyout. In his first two games as a Cardinal, Miller has picked up a hold and a save while pitching 1.2 hitless and scoreless frames. That comes as a bit of a surprise after he gave up five runs in three innings for Washington before he was DFA'd in late June.
JULY 7, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Gets hold in team debut Miller, just claimed off waivers from the Nationals on Saturday, fired a scoreless sixth inning during which he issued a walk and recorded a strikeout during a loss to the Rockies...
Impact The veteran right-hander got a crack at one of his old clubs in his first taste of game action with the Cardinals and came through with a solid frame. Miller has proven a serviceable middle-relief piece in past stops, and he projects to continue handling relatively low-leverage assignments in St. Louis that will likely limit his fantasy utility outside of very deep formats.
JULY 5, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Claimed by Cardinals The Cardinals claimed Miller off waivers and activated him for Saturday's game against the Rockies.
Impact Miller was designated for assignment Tuesday by the Nationals after allowing five runs in three June innings. The righty has performed better in prior stints with the Nationals and Rockies dating back to 2015, so the Cardinals will now call upon him for additional bullpen depth. Roel Ramirez was optioned to Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move.
JULY 3, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Designated for assignment The Nationals designated Miller for assignment Tuesday, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports.
Impact The righty yielded five runs in just three innings after being called up June 15. Monday against the Mets, Miller allowed two solo home runs while recording just one out, the last outing in what was a short stint with the big-league roster. Miller did excel as a minor-league reliever before getting the call-up, though, so it's possible another team in need of pitching considers claiming him.
JUNE 29, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Contract selected by Nationals Miller's contract was selected by the Nationals on Tuesday.
Impact The 34-year-old has thrown 156.1 career major-league innings, the last of which came back in 2019. He owns a lifetime 4.43 ERA and has struck out 24.2 percent of opposing batters while walking 8.2 percent. The veteran right has dominated over 16.1 frames for Triple-A Rochester this season, allowing just a single earned run while striking out 46.8 percent of the batters he's faced. Max Scherzer (groin) landed on the injured list in a corresponding move.
