Cleared for team debut The Yankees reinstated Brubaker (ribs) from the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

Impact Not only will Brubaker be making his season debut when he gets into a game, but he'll also be making his Yankees debut. After being acquired from the Pirates last March, Brubaker was limited to just a handful of rehab appearances in 2024 while he recovered from April 2023 Tommy John surgery and an oblique strain. He was fully healthy heading into spring training, but Brubaker sustained three rib fractures when he was struck by a comebacker in late February. The right-hander proved his health over a month-long rehab assignment and ended it in impressive fashion this past Friday, when he gave up one earned run on no hits and two walks in a five-inning start for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Though Brubaker built up as a starter during his minor-league assignment, the Yankees are initially expected to use him in long relief.

Impact Brubaker has yet to make his Yankees debut since being acquired from the Pirates in March 2024, as he was limited to a slew of minor-league rehab appearances last season while completing his recovery from April 2023 Tommy John surgery. The right-hander received a clean bill of health heading into spring training, but he fractured three of his ribs after being struck by a comebacker in late February and has spent the last three-plus months working his way back from the injury. Brubaker has finally reached the finish line in his recovery, and he closed out his extended rehab assignment in impressive fashion by allowing one earned run on no hits and two walks over five innings in his most recent outing with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday. Though Brubaker has been building up as a starter during his rehab, he may be more likely to work in long relief once the Yankees activate him within the next few days.

Rehab moved to Triple-A The Yankees transferred the rehab assignment of Brubaker (ribs) to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday, per MLB.com.

Impact Brubaker made a start for the Triple-A club after being transferred Tuesday and allowed five runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two batters over three innings. Prior to that outing, he had yielded just one earned run across 9.2 frames with a 6:3 K:BB across three minor-league games between New York's High-A and Double-A affiliates. Brubaker hasn't thrown a pitch in the majors since 2022 due to injuries, including Tommy John surgery he underwent in April of 2023. He's out of minor-league options, so once his rehab assignment is over, the Yankees will have to either add him to the big-league roster or designate him for assignment.
