The 21-year-old is considered to be one of Detroit's top overall prospects and a top 100 prospect in baseball, and he is now just one step away from making his major-league debut.

Reinstated from IL at Double-A Briceno (wrist) was activated from the 60-day injured list at Double-A Erie on Friday, Emily Waldon of Baseball America reports.

Impact Briceno had surgery to repair a tendon in his right wrist back in March and began a rehab assignment late last month. The Tigers' top catching prospect, Briceno slashed .266/.383/.500 with 20 homers, 76 RBI, 60 runs scored and a 66:87 BB:K across 441 trips to the plate between High-A and Double-A as a 20-year-old last season.

Bumped up to Double-A The Tigers promoted Briceno from High-A West Michigan to Double-A Erie on Sunday.

Impact Briceno will move on to Erie after he slashed .296/.422/.602 with 15 home runs and one stolen base over 55 games with West Michigan. The Tigers are continuing to develop the 20-year-old as a catcher, though he also made 22 starts at first base during his time at High-A.

Career day at High-A Briceno went 4-for-4 with three home runs, a double and he stole home Thursday for High-A West Michigan.

Impact Briceno is hitting .429 with six home runs, seven walks and two strikeouts over his last eight games, so a promotion to Double-A could be coming soon. The lefty-hitting 20-year-old has made more starts at first base (14) than catcher (12) this year and could eventually lose catcher eligibility.

Impact Before returning to action last weekend, Briceno had been on the shelf since May 14 with a PCL sprain in his right knee. Though he's healthy enough to hit, Briceno may not be comfortable catching just yet. He's made three of his starts as a designated hitter and the other as a first baseman.
