Released by St. Louis James was released by the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Impact James was signed to a minor-league deal in January after not pitching anywhere in 2023 following flexor tendon surgery. His stint at Triple-A Memphis did not go well, to stay the least, as he held a 19.96 ERA and 5:15 K:BB over 7.2 innings. James hasn't pitched in the majors since 2021.

Impact James has not pitched anywhere since undergoing flexor tendon surgery back in October of 2022 and he hasn't appeared in the majors since 2021. It would appear he's healthy now and the Cards will take a shot on the former top prospect in hopes he has something left in the tank. James holds a career 4.64 ERA and 158:61 K:BB over 106.2 frames covering parts of four major-league seasons.

Impact Once viewed as a rising star in some fantasy circles, James has battled injury and command issues. Most recently the right-hander underwent surgery on his flexor tendon in October, leaving his status for the spring uncertain. Now a free agent, James will look to showcase himself for teams once healthy.
