Summoned to help bullpen The Mets recalled Butto from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Impact All seven of Butto's 2024 appearances with the Mets to this point have come as a starting pitcher, but he will be used in relief this time around in order to provide some length for an overused bullpen. The right-hander has collected a 3.08 ERA and 38:21 K:BB over 38 innings in the majors this season.

Trouble finding plate Saturday Butto came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Dodgers, giving up two runs on three hits and five walks over 4.1 innings while striking out six.

Impact The right-hander threw only 47 of 95 pitches for strikes, but he was able to limit the damage. Butto was coming off back-to-back quality starts, so one shaky performance shouldn't jeopardize his spot in the rotation, but he now has a 21:9 K:BB through his first 16.1 big-league innings this season to go along with his 1.65 ERA and 1.04 WHIP. He'll look to sharpen his control in his next outing, which lines up to come next weekend at home against the Cardinals.

Impressing with improved arsenal Butto has touched 97 mph with his fastball this spring and shown a slider and cutter to go along with his changeup and curveball, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

Impact The deeper and stronger arsenal has led to good results -- Butto has allowed only one earned run over 10 Grapefruit League innings with a 9:2 K:BB. The 25-year-old has also been more aggressive in attacking the strike zone, a sign of his confidence in his new repertoire. "A light switch went off in the middle of [last] year, and he's really turned into a monster on the mound and an aggressive, come-at-you, want-to-get-you-out type of guy," pitching coach Jeremy Hefner said of Butto earlier this spring. After posting a 3.29 ERA and 28:9 K:BB over five September starts and 27.1 innings in 2023, Butto is behind Tylor Megill in the battle for the one available spot in the Mets' Opening Day rotation, but he's likely to be the next man up should a starter get hurt or falter.

Sharp in first spring start Butto gave up three hits over two scoreless innings in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros. He struck out one without walking a batter.

Impact The 25-year-old right-hander got his spring off to a good start as he battles for a Opening Day spot with the Mets. Butto looked good at the end of last season in the majors, posting a 3.29 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 28:9 K:BB over five starts and 27.1 innings, but his 5.93 ERA and 1.63 WHIP at Triple-A Syracuse in a larger sample (91 innings) are concerning. He's battling with Tylor Megill, Joey Lucchesi and others in camp for one of the team's open rotation jobs.

Ends season with loss Butto (1-4) allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four over six innings, taking the loss Sunday versus the Phillies.

Impact Butto earned his third quality start of the season, but was once again let down by his offense. The right-hander allowed two or fewer runs in all but two of his nine appearances (seven starts), but came away with just one win. He finishes 2023 with a 3.64 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 38:23 K:BB over 42 major-league innings.

Yields four runs in loss Butto (1-3) allowed four runs on four hits and two walks over four innings Sunday, striking out five and taking a loss against the Phillies.

Impact Butto's outing was derailed by a four-run fourth inning that included a two-run homer by Nick Castellanos. Butto had allowed just four runs over his previous three starts (17.1 innings) and Sunday's outing was his first time giving up more than three runs. His ERA jumped to 3.75 alongside a 34:21 K:BB through 36 frames. Butto is currently lined up to end his 2023 season with a home start against the Phillies.

Punches out six Butto yielded one run on four hits and a walk over six innings in Monday's win against Miami. He struck out six and did not factor in the decision.

Impact Butto turned in four scoreless innings before the Marlins finally tagged him with a run in the fifth frame. Over his last three outings, he's allowed four runs over 17.1 frames (2.08 ERA) with a 19:5 K:BB. His season ERA dropped to 3.09 through 32 MLB innings. Butto's next start is currently lined up to start in Philadelphia this weekend.

Collects first big-league win Butto (1-2) picked up the win in Tuesday's 7-4 victory over the Diamondbacks, allowing one run on two hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out seven.

Impact It was a night of firsts for the Mets' younger players, as Ronny Mauricio's first career homer helped get Butto his first career win. The 25-year-old right-hander has looked good in his return to the rotation in September, giving up three runs in 11.1 innings over two starts with a 13:4 K:BB, but whether he's still in the mix for a starting spot in 2024 will likely depend on how aggressive the front office is in free agency this winter. Butto's next outing is likely to come early next week in Miami.

Maintains rotation spot Butto is listed as the Mets' probable starting pitcher for Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks at Citi Field.

Impact As expected, Butto will stick around in the Mets rotation for a second turn with Carlos Carrasco (finger) having since been shut down for the season. While returning from Triple-A Syracuse last week to make the fourth big-league start of his career, Butto struck out six and gave up two earned runs in 6.1 innings while taking a no-decision against the Nationals.

Falters after six standout frames Butto settled for a no-decision against the Nationals on Wednesday, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out six batters over 6.1 innings.

Impact Butto was outstanding through five frames, giving up just four hits and one walk while keeping Washington scoreless. He returned for the seventh and yielded a pair of singles before exiting with one out and a 2-0 lead, and he lost his chance at a victory when both baserunners crossed the plate following his departure. Despite the disappointing ending, this was easily Butto's best outing of the campaign, as he picked up his first quality start and recorded a season-high strikeout total. The right-hander has a good chance of sticking in the Mets rotation given the solid outing and the fact that Carlos Carrasco is out for the season with a fractured pinky finger.

Expected to start Wednesday Butto is expected to start for the Mets on Wednesday at Washington, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Impact Butto was called up last week to work in relief, but he'll be pressed into starting duties after Carlos Carrasco suffered a season-ending fracture of his fifth right finger. Butto, 25, owns a career 6.75 ERA, 1.98 WHIP and 15:16 K:BB in 18.2 major-league innings.

Recalled from Triple-A Butto was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Impact Butto is part of the wave of promotions for the Mets as rosters expand. He'll join the team's bullpen for now but could be an option for starts at some point in the final month.

SEPTEMBER 1, 2023 • ROTOWIRE

Joining bullpen Friday Butto will be added to the Mets' major-league roster Friday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Impact Butto is expected to work out of the bullpen down the stretch. The 25-year-old has posted a 4.30 ERA in 14.2 innings (two starts, two relief appearances) this season at the major-league level and a 5.93 ERA in 91 innings (19 starts) with Triple-A Syracuse.

Returns to Triple-A The Mets optioned Butto to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

Impact Butto will presumably transition back into a starting role as heads back to Syracuse after he was called up from Triple-A on Tuesday to provide a fresh arm out of the New York bullpen. He came on in relief of David Peterson and proceeded to pitch 2.2 innings, taking the loss Tuesday against the Pirates after giving up three earned runs on two hits and three walks while striking out five. The Mets selected right-hander Dennis Santana from Triple-A Syracuse to fill Butto's spot in the bullpen and on the 26-man active roster.

Recalled from Triple-A The Mets recalled Butto from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday.

Impact Butto has spent the majority of this season with Syracuse and holds an underwhelming 5.96 ERA in 80 innings there, but the Mets need a fresh bullpen arm leading into Tuesday night's game against the Pirates.

AUGUST 15, 2023 • ROTOWIRE

Returned to Triple-A Butto was returned to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday.

Impact Butto served as the 27th man for the Mets during Wednesday's doubleheader against the Tigers and allowed one earned run over 2.1 innings of relief. He'll jump back into a starting role at Triple-A.

MAY 4, 2023 • ROTOWIRE

Back up for twin bill The Mets recalled Butto from Triple-A Syracuse and designated him as the 27th man for Wednesday's doubleheader in Detroit, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Impact Butto previously served as the 27th man for Monday's doubleheader with Atlanta, but he went unused after being called up prior to the second game of the twin bill. After being returned to Triple-A on Tuesday, Butto will be back with the big club a day later as the 27th man once again. He'll be available for both games of the doubleheader this time around before heading back to Syracuse.

MAY 3, 2023 • ROTOWIRE

Up for back end of twin bill The Mets recalled Butto from Triple-A Syracuse ahead of the second game of Monday's doubleheader with Atlanta.

Impact Though Butto was optioned to Syracuse just one day earlier, he's eligible to pitch in relief for the nightcap Monday since the Mets are designating him as their 27th man for the twin bill. He'll give the Mets a fresh arm after the team needed five relievers to cover nine innings in the 9-8 loss in Game 1, though Butto won't necessarily be tasked with a big workload in Game 2 if starter Tylor Megill is able to provide a decent amount of length.

MAY 1, 2023 • ROTOWIRE

Demoted back to minors The Mets optioned Butto to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday.

Impact Due to a rainout Sunday, the Mets will conclude their series with Atlanta with a doubleheader Monday. Butto looked to be a candidate to start one of those two contests along with Tylor Megill, but unless the Mets elect to place another player on the injured list in a corresponding move, Butto won't be eligible to be recalled ahead of the twin bill. Butto's demotion comes after he pitched to a 2.79 ERA in 9.2 innings over his prior two starts with the big club, but his underlying numbers -- specifically, a 3:10 K:BB -- didn't portend strong results moving forward.
