Impact Walker will receive his first day off after going 2-for-5 with two walks, a run and two caught stealings in the first two games of the season. Lars Nootbaar will shift to right field while Brendan Donovan mans left and Norman Gorman starts at the keystone.

Back in action Saturday Walker (knee) will start in right field and bat sixth in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against Toronto.

Impact Inflammation in Walker's left knee forced him out of the Cards' exhibition game March 5, and he has been sidelined ever since. After more than a week of rehab, he'll now return to competitive action before the end of the Grapefruit League schedule, keeping his availability for Opening Day intact. Walker has been a non-factor at the plate this spring, however, going just 2-for-14 with two RBI and eight strikeouts over six contests.

Aiming to return to lineup Saturday Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Thursday that Walker (knee) is tracking toward a return to the lineup Saturday against the Blue Jays, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Impact Walker began a running progression earlier this week and has also taken batting practice and tracked flyballs as he works his way back from left knee inflammation. He has missed over a week of action, but as long as he returns Saturday as expected and doesn't have any setbacks, Walker should be fine for Opening Day.

Impact Walker is expected to progress to lateral movements next as he works his way back from left knee inflammation. A return to Grapefruit League action should come after that. Walker hasn't played since tweaking his knee March 4 but is expected to have enough time to ramp back up for Opening Day.

Impact Marmol described Walker's progress two days after being diagnosed with inflammation in his left knee as "a little ahead of what I expected," adding that he's "super encouraged" with how the outfielder is feeling. Impact Upon reviewing video from 2024 as it compared to 2023, Walker and Brown noticed that the outfielder's hands were separating from his body too soon and also the balance in his lower half was inconsistent while he used a wider stance. The goal, per Walker, is to "hit line drives" and "drive the ball in the gap" instead of putting so much emphasis on lofting the ball in the air. Walker said he's "super-excited" with the early results of his swing changes and can't wait to test it out against live pitching. The Cardinals are committed to youth in 2025, which includes giving Walker a long leash in right field. The 22-year-old Walker slashed only .201/.253/.366 over 52 games with St. Louis in 2024 while spending a large chunk of the season in the minors.
