IL move official The Red Sox placed Hicks on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Sept. 4, due to right shoulder tendinitis.
Impact As expected, Hicks will hit the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder injury deemed to be tendinitis. The right-hander has surrendered at least one run in each of his last three appearances, including a four-run outing Wednesday across one-third of an inning. Chris Murphy was recalled from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move.

Impact Hicks gave up four runs while recording just one out in an appearance Wednesday versus the Guardians and holds an 8.20 ERA and 15:12 K:BB over 18.2 innings during his time with the Red Sox. He would be eligible for activation Sept. 19, but between the nature of the injury and Hicks' struggles, his season could be over.
