Battling mild strain Bowlan was diagnosed with a mild right groin strain Friday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Impact Although Bowlan was diagnosed with a strain, the Phillies will hold off on placing him on the IL because they believe he will be able to return before the end of the season. When healthy, the 29-year-old has been one of the most reliable members of Philadelphia's bullpen, posting a 3.36 ERA and 1.03 WHIP across 56.1 innings.

Impact Bowlan recorded two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning before he was forced to leave the game with groin discomfort. The right-handed pitcher can be considered day-to-day for the time being, and he will likely undergo additional imaging in the near future.

Impact Jhoan Duran last pitched Wednesday, his lone appearance of the week, so it's curious that he didn't get the closing assignment Friday. Duran's last save came Aug. 19 versus the Marlins. Bowlan got the job done Friday despite a little shakiness, earning his second save of the season to go with 11 holds. Bowlan's picked up both saves and six of his holds since the All-Star break, a span in which he's allowed a modest five runs over 18 innings.
