GAME LOG

INJURIES

Sent down after loss Heasley (1-7) was optioned to Triple-A Omaha after taking the loss in Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the White Sox. He gave up two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts...
Impact The right-hander was called up as the 27th man to start Tuesday's nightcap, and the only runs he allowed came via solo homers from Lenyn Sosa and Yoan Moncada. It was Heasley's third straight loss in the majors, and he now has a 5.61 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 46:29 K:BB over 61 innings.
AUGUST 10, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Getting spot start in doubleheader The Royals recalled Heasley from Triple-A Omaha and designated him as the 27th man for Tuesday's doubleheader with the White Sox. He's expected to start the second game of the twin...
Impact Meanwhile, right-hander Brady Singer is expected to get the starting nod for the Royals in the early game. After a week-long stint in the minors, Heasley will be joining the Royals to make his 13th start of the season before likely heading back to Omaha. Over 55.2 big-league innings on the campaign, Heasley has produced a 5.82 ERA and 1.56 WHIP.
AUGUST 9, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Moves to Triple-A The Royals optioned Heasley to Triple-A Omaha on Sunday.
Impact Heasley's demotion comes after he was blitzed for six earned runs over 3.1 innings in his return from the 15-day injured list in Saturday's 8-2 loss to the Yankees. Though he'll be heading to the minors, Heasley shouldn't have to wait too long before re-entering the big-league rotation. The Royals will have doubleheaders on consecutive days in the second week of August and will need to temporarily implement a seven-man rotation, and Heasley is a prime candidate to step in as a spot starter.
JULY 31, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Takes sixth loss Heasley (1-6) allowed six runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out one across 3.1 innings to take the loss Saturday against the Yankees.
Impact Heasley made his first start since July 9 after spending three weeks on the injured list. He received a rude welcome from the Yankees, as both DJ LeMahieu and Aaron Judge took Heasley yard to account for three of his earned runs. Heasley has had an up-and-down season for the Royals, allowing at least four earned runs in four of his last five appearances after logging a 3.62 ERA through his first six outings. That has resulted in a 5.50 ERA and 1.51 WHIP across 52.1 innings on the campaign.
JULY 31, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Activated prior to start Heasley (shoulder) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list ahead of Saturday's start against the Yankees.
Impact Heasley spent just under three weeks on the injured list due to right shoulder tendinitis, but he tossed 60 pitches during a rehab start at Triple-A Omaha on Sunday. He'll likely have his pitch count monitored during Saturday's matchup and will attempt to improve upon his results since he posted a 9.56 ERA and 1.75 WHIP in 16 innings over his four starts leading up to his absence.
JULY 30, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Returns from injured list Saturday Heasley (shoulder) will be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Saturday against the Yankees, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.
Impact Heasley landed on the shelf with shoulder tendinitis on July and will return Saturday after spending little more than the 15-day minimum on the IL. The right-hander threw 60 pitches across 3.1 innings during his lone minor-league rehab start, so he's likely to face some minor workload limitations in his first game back in the majors.
JULY 29, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Tosses 60 pitches in rehab start Heasley (shoulder) covered 3.1 innings and gave up four runs (one earned) on six hits and zero walks while striking out three in his rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Omaha.
Impact Heasley threw 60 pitches (40 strikes) in the outing, and while the Royals haven't determined the right-hander's next step, he may need one additional minor-league rehab start before slotting back into Kansas City's rotation. Before going on the shelf July 10 with right shoulder tendinitis, Heasley turned in a 5.50 ERA and 1.51 WHIP across 52.1 innings over his 11 starts for the Royals.
JULY 25, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Launching rehab assignment Heasley (shoulder) will start his rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on Sunday.
Impact Heasley has been out since July 10 with right shoulder tendinitis, but he appears to be on track to return to the Royals' rotation in the next week or so. The 25-year-old has produced a 5.50 ERA and 1.51 WHIP with 40 strikeouts over 52.1 innings in 11 starts this year.
JULY 24, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Out with shoulder tendinitis Heasley was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday with right shoulder tendinitis.
Impact Heasley surrendered six runs (five earned) over 1.1 innings Sunday against Cleveland and is now headed to the injured list. The severity of the injury remains unclear, but the right-hander will be eligible to rejoin the active roster shortly after the All-Star break, which ends July 22.
JULY 10, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Crushed by Cleveland Heasley (1-5) took the loss during Saturday's 13-1 defeat at the hands of the Guardians, allowing six runs (five earned) on six hits and a hit batter with two strikeouts in 1.1 inn...
Impact Heasley didn't have his stuff working from the start and it showed as he surrendered two runs on four baserunners in the first inning and four runs on four baserunners (including one that reached on an error) in the second before being pulled. The 25-year-old has now permitted at least five runs in two of his last three starts, causing his ERA to inflate from a decent 4.14 to 5.50 during the three-game stretch. Heasley is currently scheduled to take the mound again midweek in a road start in Toronto.
JULY 10, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Quality start wasted Monday Heasley didn't factor into the decision in Monday's 7-6 loss to the Astros, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out three.
Impact The rookie right-hander delivered his fourth quality start in 10 trips to the mound this year on 92 pitches (57 strikes), but Heasley was denied his second win when the Royals' bullpen imploded. He'll carry a 4.76 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 38:26 K:BB through 51 innings into his next outing.
JULY 5, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Roughed up for fourth loss Heasley (1-4) gave up seven earned runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out three over 3.2 innings to take the loss in an 8-3 defeat to the Rangers on Tuesday.
Impact Heasley had his worst start of the year at the hands of the Rangers who chased him from the game before the end of the fourth inning. The 25-year-old rookie only mustered six swings-and-misses over the course of his start and was taken deep by Marcus Semien for a three-run shot in the third. The Royals' number eight prospect is unlikely to earn many wins this season due to his inflated 5.20 ERA and weak supporting weak lineup which is now without slugger Salvador Perez (thumb). Heasley is tentatively slated for a tough matchup in his next start Monday at Houston.
JUNE 29, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Goes five innings in no-decision Heasley allowed four runs on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts in five-plus innings Tuesday versus the Angels. He did not factor in the decision.
Impact All four runs on Heasley's line came via the long ball -- he gave up a solo home run to Jared Walsh in the fourth inning and a three-run blast to Shohei Ohtani in the sixth before exiting. This was just the second time in eight outings Heasley's allowed multiple homers this year, and it was also the first game he's allowed more than three runs. He owns a 4.14 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 32:22 K:BB through 41.1 innings, and he'll carry a 1-3 record into his next start, projected for next week at home versus the Rangers.
JUNE 22, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Inefficient against San Francisco Heasley allowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four across four innings Wednesday against the Giants.
Impact Heasley wasn't hit particularly hard, but he needed 92 pitches to record 12 outs. All of the damage came against him in his final inning, when he allowed a solo home run, a walk and a single. Heasley has had some success -- he had recorded three straight quality starts prior to Wednesday's outing -- though he has now walked multiple hitters in six of his seven starts on the campaign. Overall, he owns a 3.72 ERA, but that is paired with a 26:20 K:BB.
JUNE 16, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Earns win in dominant outing Heasley (1-3) allowed one hit over seven shutout innings Friday, striking out seven and recording a win over the Orioles.
Impact Heasley was terrific Friday, coughing up just one single while throwing 64 of 93 pitches for strikes. He retired the final 12 batters he faced after Trey Mancini reached base on an error in the fourth frame. Heasley lowered his ERA to 3.62 with a 22:18 K:BB through 32.1 innings this season. The 25-year-old is lined up to start in San Francisco next week.

Heasley sharp over 7 innings as Royals top Orioles 8-1

Jonathan Heasley allowed one hit in a career-best seven sharp innings, Salvador Perez and MJ Melendez each homered and drove in three runs and the Kansas City Royals defeated the B...
JUNE 11, 2022 • Associated Press
Takes loss in quality start Heasley (0-3) took the loss Sunday versus the Astros, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts in six innings.
Impact Heasley didn't help his own cause much -- he hit one batter and added a pair of wild pitches, one of which led to the Astros' second run. The right-hander has posted consecutive quality starts, but he remains on the search for his first win of the season. He's at a 4.62 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 15:18 K:BB across 25.1 innings in five starts. Sunday was a step in the right direction in terms of limiting walks, as he allowed three or more in his other four outings. He'll try to find more control in a home start versus the Orioles next week.
JUNE 5, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Turns in quality start Heasley allowed three runs on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts across six innings in a no-decision versus the Guardians on Monday.
Impact This was Heasley's longest start of the season, and he pitched fairly well. He was in line for the loss before the Royals rallied to tie the game in the eighth inning. The 25-year-old right-hander has walked at least three batters in all four of his major-league starts this year, contributing to a 4.66 ERA and 1.76 WHIP. He's posted a 10:16 K:BB in 19.1 innings while posting an 0-2 record. While he's not performing that well, Zack Greinke (elbow) going on the injured list bodes well for Heasley remaining in the rotation for a couple more starts. He's projected to face the Astros at home this weekend.
MAY 31, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Walks six in no-decision Heasley didn't factor into the decision during Tuesday's 8-6 loss to Arizona, allowing three runs on four hits and six walks with five strikeouts in five innings.
Impact Heasley surrendered one run apiece in the first, second and fourth innings and was in line for the win until Arizona put up five runs in the bottom of the sixth. The 25-year-old was helped by two double plays and was able to strand four runners to offset putting 10 runners on base, though Heasley has now walked an alarming 12 batters 13.1 innings across three starts. He's slated to take the mound early next week against Cleveland.
MAY 25, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Stuck with loss in Tuesday's opener Heasley (0-2) took the loss in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the White Sox, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out on...
Impact The 25-year-old righty held Chicago scoreless through four frames before putting the first three batters he faced on board to begin the fifth, with all three eventually coming around to score. Heasley has a superficially tolerable 4.32 ERA through two starts for the Royals, but his 2:7 K:BB in 8.1 innings suggests his luck won't last much longer. With Brady Singer having tossed a gem in the nightcap of Tuesday's twin bill as the 27th man before being optioned back to Triple-A, Heasley doesn't figure to hang onto a rotation spot much longer.
MAY 18, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Getting another start Heasley is slated to start the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Impact Meanwhile, Brady Singer will be recalled from Triple-A Omaha to start the nightcap, and his performance Tuesday along with Heasley's will likely determine which of the two sticks around as the Royals' No. 5 starter moving forward. While entering the rotation last week as a replacement for the struggling Kris Bubic, Heasley didn't show much to get excited about. He worked 3.1 innings in a losing effort at Texas, giving up one earned run on four hits and four walks while striking out one batter.
MAY 17, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Struggles in season debut Heasley (0-1) took the loss after allowing one run on four hits and four walks across 3.1 innings during Thursday's 3-1 loss to the Rangers. He struck out one.
Impact Heasley made three starts for the Royals last year, but he started the 2022 campaign at Triple-A. The youngster struggled out of the gate in his season debut, giving up two single, a walk and a run during the first inning, but he was able to settle down until he was pulled with a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the fourth. Amir Garrett replaced Heasley and was able to escape the inning without giving up a run. Heasley's next start is tentatively scheduled for the second half of Kansas City's double-header against the White Sox on Tuesday.
MAY 13, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Recalled prior to start Heasley was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Thursday, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.
Impact Heasley made three starts for the Royals last year, and he'll make his first major-league appearance of the 2022 season as the starter Thursday against the Royals. The 25-year-old made six starts in Omaha to begin the year, posting a 4.44 ERA, 30:4 K:BB and 0.96 WHIP in 26.1 innings. Kris Bubic was sent down to make room for Heasley on the active roster.

MAY 12, 2022 • MLB.COM
Starting Thursday Heasley will start Thursday's game against the Rangers, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Impact Heasley has made six starts at Triple-A Omaha to begin the year, and he's posted a 4.44 ERA, 30:6 K:BB and 0.96 WHIP in 26.1 innings. The right-hander made three starts for the Royals in 2021 and will be called up ahead of Thursday's matchup to make his 2022 debut.
