Makes rare start against righty Noel started in right field and went 0-for-2 in Friday's 8-6 win over the Angels.
Impact Noel, who made his first start against a right-hander, was eventually pinch hit for by Nolan Jones, who had started the previous games against righties. Noel is 1-for-11 (.091) to start the season and has gone nine at-bats without a hit.

Big March for Big Christmas and other good signs for Cleveland's offense: Guardians breakfast today Jhonkensy Noel leads the Guardians in hits this spring with 19.

Hits second spring homer Noel started in right field and went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's spring game against Milwaukee.
Impact Noel's seventh-inning home run was his second of the Cactus League. He's hit safely in eight of the last nine spring games and looks poised to make the Opening Day roster. Noel is expected to the right-handed component of a platoon in right field along with Will Brennan. Noel is batting .282 (11-for-39) with two homers, four RBI, one steal and a significant 16 strikeouts.

Still has chance for roster spot Noel is projected to make the Guardians' Opening Day roster by Mandy Bell and Tim Stebbins of MLB.com.
Impact Noel has 15 strikeouts across 33 at-bats in Cactus League action this spring and doesn't offer much range in the outfield. On the other hand, he would provide some needed pop for the Guardians from the right side of the plate, as he maintained a .268 ISO across 198 plate appearances in his first taste of the majors last season. Assuming he does make the team, Noel is expected to begin the campaign splitting time with Will Brennan in right field.

Competing for starting job Noel and Will Brennan enter spring training in a competition for the starting job in right field, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
Impact Those two platooned in right for the second half of 2024, and that arrangement could return this season. The Guardians would like to have a bat that replaces the power lost when Josh Naylor was traded to Arizona. Brennan hasn't replicated the promise he showed when he first appeared in the majors in 2022. The right-handed hitting Noel bopped more home runs (13) and slugged higher (.486) than Brennan (eight, .388), but he could be a liability against righty pitching and needs to improve selectivity at the dish to become a lineup regular. Noel had a 31.8 strikeout percentage with a chase percentage of 45.0, both among the lowest in MLB. If neither player delivers what manager Stephen Vogt wants, Cleveland could seek another option.

Absent from Game 3 lineup Noel is not in the lineup Wednesday for Game 3 of the ALDS against the Tigers, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.
Impact Noel started each of the first two games of the series but went 0-for-4 with a walk and a hit by pitch. In Game 3 he will yield right field to Will Brennan, who is batting seventh for the Guardians.

Starting in Game 1 of ALDS Noel is starting in right field and batting seventh Saturday against Detroit in Game 1 of the ALDS.
Impact Will Brennan got the start in right field in two of the Tigers' three contests versus Houston in the wild-card round, but Noel is getting the call for the first game of the series against the Tigers. Detroit is slated to use left-hander Tyler Holton as the opener in the contest, and righty Reese Olson is expected to follow in bulk relief. Noel batted .246 against southpaws and just .205 versus righties during the regular season.

Losing work against RHPs Noel is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Twins.
Impact Noel will take a seat against a right-handed pitcher (Pablo Lopez) for the second day in a row and may have lost hold of an everyday role in right field while he's struggled to a .125/.176/.250 slash line with a 32.4 percent strikeout rate thus far in September. The lefty-hitting Will Brennan will get the nod in right field Monday and could be set to occupy the strong side of platoon with Noel over the final two weeks of the regular season.
SEPTEMBER 16, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
On bench Sunday Noel is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.
Impact After starting in four of the Guardians' previous five matchups with right-handers, Noel will take a seat Sunday while righty Taj Bradley takes the hill for Tampa Bay. The Guardians will go with Will Brennan in right field in place of Noel, who has gone 4-for-31 (.129 average) with a 30.3 percent strikeout rate thus far in September.
