Called up Saturday Scholtens was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Saturday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Impact Scholtens, who was claimed off waivers by Tampa Bay on Aug. 4 after he was designated for assignment by the White Sox, has a 4.13 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 43:9 K:BB in 32.2 innings across seven starts for the Bulls. The 31-year-old righty hasn't pitched in the majors since 2023, when he logged a 5.29 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 85 innings for the White Sox. He'll likely work as a low-leverage reliever capable of getting more than three outs.

Impact Scholtens didn't pitch at all in 2024 and has been limited to 10 appearances (eight starts) in 2025 in the minors after recovering from Tommy John surgery. The 31-year-old has collected a 5.25 ERA and 30:12 K:BB over 36 innings this season and will likely slot into Durham's rotation.

Impact The right-hander was activated from the injured list Saturday and optioned to Triple-A Charlotte, and he's now been removed from the 40-man roster. Scholtens has been sidelined since spring training of 2024 due to Tommy John surgery, and he posted a 5.28 ERA across his eight rehab outings with Charlotte.

Impact Scholtens has been on the shelf all season while working his way back from a Tommy John procedure he underwent last March. Impact Scholtens, who is working his way back from March 2024 Tommy John surgery, initially began a rehab assignment May 6 and made six appearances between High-A Winston-Salem and Charlotte before experiencing elbow discomfort coming out of his final outing June 4. After taking about a month off to rest up and restart his throwing program, Scholtens is now in the process of building back up again. He tossed 3.1 innings and 64 pitches in his latest start for Charlotte last Saturday, so he'll likely require at least one or two more tune-up outings in the minors before he's considered fully stretched out for a rotation spot. The White Sox wouldn't appear to have a starting role available for Scholtens at the big-league level, so he could work out of the bullpen or out of the rotation at Triple-A once he's reinstated from the 60-day injured list.
