Rejoins big club Atlanta selected Chavez's contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday.
Impact Chavez will regain a spot on Atlanta's 40-man roster for the third time this season, as he had previously elected free agency and re-signed with the organization on minor-league deals after being designated for assignment on two occasions in April. Since re-signing on his latest minor-league deal May 1, the 41-year-old righty has pitched well for Gwinnett, logging a 2.22 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 24:12 K:BB in 24.1 innings. He'll likely fill a middle-relief role for Atlanta.

JULY 6 • Associated Press
Back with Atlanta again Atlanta re-signed Chavez to a minor league deal Thursday, Lindsay Crosby of AthlonSports.com reports.
Impact Chavez cleared waivers Tuesday and elected free agency. This is the fourth time since the start of the 2024 season the the right-hander has signed with Atlanta on a minor-league deal. It is also the third time that Atlanta has signed him after being the team that DFA'd him in that span. So, it won't be surprising if the 41-year-old finds his way back onto the 40-man roster.

Becomes free agent Chavez cleared waivers Tuesday and elected free agency, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
Impact Chavez opted to enter the open market the last time he was DFA'd by Atlanta, so it's not too surprising to see him do it again. The 41-year-old has allowed two earned runs in three innings across his two appearances this season.

DFA'd by Atlanta Atlanta designated Chavez for assignment Sunday.
Impact It's the second time Chavez has been DFA'd by Atlanta this season. The first time occurred April 1, and after electing free agency he ended up returning to Atlanta on a minor-league deal. He was promoted to the majors Wednesday and came out of the bullpen against the Diamondbacks on Friday, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out two in one inning. If he clears waivers, Chavez will once again have the option to reject a minor-league assignment and enter free agency.

Rejoins big-league bullpen Atlanta selected Chavez's contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday.
Impact The 41-year-old reliever will return to the big club for the second time this season, as he previously made a two-inning appearance out of the bullpen in a 6-1 loss to the Dodgers on March 31 before being designated for assignment the next day. After clearing waivers, Chavez elected free agency and re-signed with Atlanta on a minor-league deal. He received the call back to the big leagues after excelling at Gwinnett over the past two and a half weeks, allowing just one unearned run on two hits and no walks while striking out 10 over five innings in his last five appearances.

He tossed two innings of one-run ball against the Dodgers that day and was designated for assignment the following morning. Chavez is back with Atlanta to serve as organization relief depth.

Enters free agency Chavez cleared waivers Thursday and elected free agency.
Impact Chavez was DFA'd by Atlanta after he allowed one run in two innings during his appearance against the Dodgers on Monday. Rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Gwinnett and remaining in the organization that has brought him the majority of his success throughout his career, the 41-year-old will once again explore his options in the open market.

DFA'd by Atlanta Atlanta designated Chavez for assignment Tuesday.
Impact The veteran right-hander inked a minor-league deal with Atlanta last week and had his contract selected from Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday, and he pitched later in the day versus the Dodgers, giving up a run on two hits and two walks over two innings. Chavez had a 3.13 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 55:19 K:BB across 46 appearances for Atlanta last season, but his stay on the big-league roster early this year was brief.

Joining big-league bullpen Atlanta will select Chavez's contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Impact Chavez has seen action with 10 different teams over parts of 17 seasons in the big leagues, but Atlanta has been a familiar stop for the 41-year-old. Currently in the midst of his fourth stint in the Atlanta organization, Chavez didn't break camp with the big club but didn't have to wait long for an opening in the bullpen to emerge after right-hander Hector Neris was designated for assignment. Chavez is likely to work in middle relief after he turned in a 3.13 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 55:19 K:BB across 63.1 innings with Atlanta in 2024.
