INJURIES

Placed on injured list The Padres placed Estrada on the 15-day injured list Friday with right knee inflammation, retroactive to Wednesday.
Impact Estrada gave up a run and took the loss during his last appearance Tuesday, and he seems to have come away from the outing with a knee issue. Manager Craig Stammen said Friday that he doesn't expect the right-hander's injury to linger, per AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, so he could be cleared to return when first eligible. In the meantime, David Morgan will come up from Triple-A El Paso to round out San Diego's bullpen.

Responsible for loss Estrada (2-2) picked up the loss after giving up the eventual game-winning run in a 3-2 loss to Philadelphia on Tuesday.
Impact Estrada entered the ballgame in the bottom of the sixth with the score tied at 2-2. The 27-year-old allowed Bryce Harper to cross home plate as the go-ahead run as a result of an Alec Bohm double play, limiting the damage at just one. Estrada has given up two earned runs in his last two appearances after previously pitching 4.2 scoreless innings. The right-hander now commands a 3.48 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 23:10 K:BB through 20.2 innings this season.

Picks up save Saturday Estrada earned a save against the Mariners on Saturday, allowing one hit and one walk over one scoreless inning.
Impact Estrada entered in the ninth inning with San Diego up by three runs. He got into some trouble by issuing a walk and allowing a single with one out, but the right-hander retired the next two batters to close out the San Diego win. Estrada's save was his first of the season and fifth of his career. Mason Miller has been arguably the best closer in baseball this season, but he was presumably unavailable after throwing 34 pitches in a save Friday. With that in mind, Estrada isn't likely to see many save chances moving forward.

Reinstated from injured list The Padres activated Estrada (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Friday.
Impact Estrada has been shelved for the past three weeks with right elbow tendinitis but has been cleared to return after making a couple rehab appearances. The 27-year-old had a shaky start to the season before getting hurt, posting a 5.14 ERA and 8:5 K:BB over seven innings, but the right-hander will slide back into a setup role ahead of closer Mason Miller.

Begins rehab stint Estrada (elbow) kicked off a minor-league rehab assignment with Single-A Lake Elsinore on Friday, per MLB.com.
Impact Estrada landed on the injured list April 10 due to tightness in his right elbow. The righty reliever resumed playing catch shortly thereafter and is now pitching in games again. Estrada tossed a clean inning with one strikeout in his first rehab appearance Friday and may not need a lengthy stint in the minors before he's brought back up to the big-league bullpen.

Resumes playing catch Estrada (elbow) resumed playing light catch earlier this week, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact Estrada's velocity had been down through his first seven appearances of the season, but it wasn't until the right-hander felt tightness in his elbow while playing catch before the Padres decided to place him on the injured list last Friday. The Padres are labeling Estrada's injury as tendinitis, and the fact that he's already been cleared to start throwing again offers hope that he'll be in line for an abbreviated stay on the shelf. Despite the early drop in velocity, Estrada was able to strike out more than a batter per inning and netted four holds prior to landing on the shelf.

Placed on injured list The Padres placed Estrada on the 15-day injured list Friday with right elbow tendinitis.
Impact After logging five straight shutout appearances, Estrada gave up two earned runs on two hits and two walks over 1.1 innings during his outing Thursday. He had been working as a setup man in front of closer Mason Miller, but Jason Adam will presumably take over in that role after being activated from the IL in a corresponding move.

Dominant in Cactus League action Through nine spring appearances, Estrada has tossed 9.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits while posting a 16:7 K:BB.
Impact Estrada has looked nearly unhittable in exhibition action while racking up a 14.9 K/9. The walks are a bit concerning, though the flamethrowing reliever is coming off a 2025 regular season during which he posted a career-best 8.9 percent walk rate. Estrada also recorded a career-high 30 holds last year and is slated to again be a key high-leverage arm for San Diego in 2026.
