INJURIES

May be done for season Estrada (shoulder) hadn't resumed throwing as of Sept. 8, and he may be not be able to return to San Diego before the end of the campaign, MLB.com reports.
Impact Estrada has been on the IL three different times this season, with his latest stint coming as the result of a right shoulder impingement. Though the righty reliever has been rehabbing in Arizona, the fact that he's yet to resume throwing suggests that he's not certain to pitch again this season. Estrada had been a key late-inning asset for the Padres before getting hurt, recording 13 holds and one save while posting a 3.48 ERA and 1.16 WHIP over 31 innings spanning 33 appearances.

Shelved by shoulder impingement The Padres placed Estrada on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a right shoulder impingement.
Impact It's the third IL stint this season for Estrada, who has missed time previously with elbow and knee issues. When healthy, he's logged a 3.48 ERA and 38:16 K:BB over 31 frames this season. It's unclear how long Estrada's absence will last.

Makes return from IL The Padres reinstated Estrada (knee) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.
Impact Estrada will be available out of the bullpen for the Padres' series finale versus the Rockies after San Diego cleared a spot from him by designating right-hander Matt Waldron for assignment. Prior to landing on the IL on June 5 due to right knee inflammation, Estrada had handled a key setup role in front of closer Mason Miller. In 21 appearances, Estrada notched two wins, seven holds and one save while pitching to a 3.48 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 23:10 K:BB across 20.2 innings.

On rehab assignment Estrada (knee) moved his rehab assignment up to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday, walking two and allowing one hit over one-third of an inning.
Impact Working his way back from right knee inflammation, Estrada began a rehab assignment last week in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. He's been shelved since early June, so Estrada could be asked to make another rehab appearance or two before being reinstated to the Padres' active roster.
JULY 22 • ROTOWIRE
Completes bullpen session Estrada (knee) threw a bullpen session Saturday, his first since landing on the injured list June 5, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact Estrada is in the midst of his second IL stint of the season, as he previously missed just under a month earlier in the campaign due to elbow tendinitis. The right-hander has had a slower recovery than expected from right knee inflammation, but his ability to get back on the mound represents a major step forward in the recovery process. He's expected to throw a couple more bullpen sessions this week before he resumes facing hitters after the All-Star break.

Working toward return Estrada (knee) has been throwing at the Padres' spring-training complex in Arizona, per MLB.com.
Impact When Estrada landed on the IL with right knee inflammation June 5, it was initially believed that he wouldn't be out long. However, the righty reliever has now been sidelined nearly a month, and the Padres haven't shared a timeline for when he will return. San Diego recently lost setup man Jason Adam to the injured list because of a shoulder strain, so Estrada's continued absence has taken on extra significance.
JULY 3 • ROTOWIRE
Placed on injured list The Padres placed Estrada on the 15-day injured list Friday with right knee inflammation, retroactive to Wednesday.
Impact Estrada gave up a run and took the loss during his last appearance Tuesday, and he seems to have come away from the outing with a knee issue. Manager Craig Stammen said Friday that he doesn't expect the right-hander's injury to linger, per AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, so he could be cleared to return when first eligible. In the meantime, David Morgan will come up from Triple-A El Paso to round out San Diego's bullpen.

Responsible for loss Estrada (2-2) picked up the loss after giving up the eventual game-winning run in a 3-2 loss to Philadelphia on Tuesday.
Impact Estrada entered the ballgame in the bottom of the sixth with the score tied at 2-2. The 27-year-old allowed Bryce Harper to cross home plate as the go-ahead run as a result of an Alec Bohm double play, limiting the damage at just one. Estrada has given up two earned runs in his last two appearances after previously pitching 4.2 scoreless innings. The right-hander now commands a 3.48 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 23:10 K:BB through 20.2 innings this season.

Picks up save Saturday Estrada earned a save against the Mariners on Saturday, allowing one hit and one walk over one scoreless inning.
Impact Estrada entered in the ninth inning with San Diego up by three runs. He got into some trouble by issuing a walk and allowing a single with one out, but the right-hander retired the next two batters to close out the San Diego win. Estrada's save was his first of the season and fifth of his career. Mason Miller has been arguably the best closer in baseball this season, but he was presumably unavailable after throwing 34 pitches in a save Friday. With that in mind, Estrada isn't likely to see many save chances moving forward.

Reinstated from injured list The Padres activated Estrada (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Friday.
Impact Estrada has been shelved for the past three weeks with right elbow tendinitis but has been cleared to return after making a couple rehab appearances. The 27-year-old had a shaky start to the season before getting hurt, posting a 5.14 ERA and 8:5 K:BB over seven innings, but the right-hander will slide back into a setup role ahead of closer Mason Miller.

Begins rehab stint Estrada (elbow) kicked off a minor-league rehab assignment with Single-A Lake Elsinore on Friday, per MLB.com.
Impact Estrada landed on the injured list April 10 due to tightness in his right elbow. The righty reliever resumed playing catch shortly thereafter and is now pitching in games again. Estrada tossed a clean inning with one strikeout in his first rehab appearance Friday and may not need a lengthy stint in the minors before he's brought back up to the big-league bullpen.
