Matt Chapman's 2-run homer, and Ramos' solo shot, help Giants beat Reds 6-3

Matt Chapman hit a two-run homer and Heliot Ramos homered for the second time in the series as the San Francisco Giants beat the Cincinnati Reds 6-3

Moves to DH Candelario served as the designated hitter and went 1-for-3 with a walk in Saturday's 3-2 win over San Francisco.
Impact Candelario, who started Opening Day at third base, moved to DH on Saturday, when Spencer Steer was given a rest day. Steer is dealing with a wonky shoulder that's limiting him to DH for now. Candelario will see time at third base, first base and DH, while the Reds cope with Steer's situation and Austin Hays' calf injury. Gavin Lux, who is also expected to get starts at the hot corner, has been filling in for Hays in left field. There are moving parts to consider with respect to Candelario, who has three hits, two walks and three RBI through eight plate appearances.

Starts at third base Candelario started at third base and went 2-for-3 with a walk and three RBI in Thursday's 6-4 loss to San Francisco.
Impact Candelario was part of crowded corner infield spots during spring training, but a late injury to outfielder Austin Hays (calf) led to Gavin Lux playing left field Thursday. That should give Candelario a near-daily role at third base, first base of DH in the early going. He underwhelmed overall at the plate in 2024, his first with the Reds, but he managed to hit the 20-homer mark for a second consecutive season.

Wilmer Flores' 3-run homer in the 9th inning propels Giants to 6-4 victory over Reds

Wilmer Flores hit a three-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning, and the San Francisco Giants rallied for a 6-4 victory over Cincinnati on Thursday, spoiling Terry Francona’s...

May platoon at third base Cincinnati manager Terry Francona suggested Thursday that Candelario and Gavin Lux could be part of a platoon at third base, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
Impact Francona wants to get as many competent bats into the lineup as possible, but that's shaping up to be a tricky task. Christian Encarnacion-Strand (three HRs, 1.000 OPS) has hit well this spring and looks like the best option for first base, which removes a potential option for Candelario, who could slot in at designated hitter if Spencer Steer (shoulder) is not ready for the start of the regular season. Lux can move around -- second base or left field -- which would allow both he and Candelario to be in the lineup against righties. There are a few moving parts that should be sorted out in the next two weeks.

Jeimer Candelario? Gavin Lux? Santiago Espinal? Who's on third for Cincinnati Reds? A three-man, multi-position equation of matchups looks like the Cincinnati Reds' answer to a troubling third base position as they open the...

Swats first spring homer Candelario started at designated hitter and went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's spring game against San Diego.
Impact Candelario belted his first spring home run in the first inning. He missed some time after having a tooth pulled and returned to the field Sunday. Reds manager Terry Francona gave him seven at-bats over the two games since his return, as Candelario missed plate appearances while being sidelined the last week. He's played first base (three times), third base (twice) and DH (twice) during Cactus League games, and Candelario's primary home this season is not yet settled. Spencer Steer's shoulder injury, projected to land him on the injured list to open the season, allows for Candelario, Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Gavin Lux to be in the lineup. Lineup decisions will be trickier once Steer is ready to go.
MARCH 11, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Returns to spring lineup Candelario (tooth) will serve as the Reds' designated hitter and will bat cleanup in Sunday's Cactus League game against the Angels.
Impact Candelario is back in the lineup for the first time in a week after he recently had a wisdom tooth extracted and missed a few workouts as a result. The 31-year-old should be ready to handle a near-everyday role once the season begins, with Candelario likely to move around between DH and the corner-infield spots.
MARCH 9, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Out after having tooth pulled Candelario is currently sidelined after having a painful wisdom tooth pulled Tuesday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact Candelario left camp Monday for an appointment and then returned to the dentist Tuesday to have the tooth extracted. He should be ready to play again in a day or two. Candelario is slated for regular playing time with the Reds this season, likely between both corner infield spots and designated hitter.

Impact Candelario will be one of several players who will see time at the hot corner during spring training. In addition to Candelario, the group includes Gavin Lux, Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Noelvi Marte. Prospect Cam Collier will also be in the mix. Candelario added weight during the offseason, but he said it's redistributed and wants to add another five pounds to help get him through the regular season. He missed the final month-and-a-half of the 2024 season due to a toe injury and appeared in 112 games.
FEBRUARY 18, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Could be done for season Candelario (toe) is unlikely to return and finish the season, MLB.com reports.
Impact Candelario, who was hit by a pitch during a game Aug. 18, landed on the injured list a couple of days later and has yet to resume baseball activities. Cincinnati manager David Bell said Saturday that it looks like Candelario will not be back this season, adding there is still pain in the toe. If that's it for Candelario, he'll finish his first season as a member of the Reds with 20 home runs, 56 RBI, four steals, 47 runs scored and a line of .225/.279/.429 over 112 games.

Yet to resume baseball activities Candelario (toe) has yet to resume baseball activities, MLB.com reports.
Impact Candelario is almost three weeks removed from suffering a fractured left great toe and he remains limited to rehabilitation work due to lingering discomfort. It shouldn't take long for him to become game-ready once the soreness subsides, but it's not clear when/if that might happen before the end of the season.

Athletics take 3-game win streak into matchup with the Reds

The Oakland Athletics are looking to keep a three-game win streak intact when they take on the Cincinnati Reds
AUGUST 29, 2024 • Associated Press
Still feeling discomfort Reds manager David Bell said Tuesday that Candelario is still feeling pain in his fractured left great toe, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact It's not a surprise to hear considering he's just a week removed from landing on the 10-day injured list, but it emphasizes that Candelario is not close to a return. The Reds presumably won't allow him to resume baseball activities until he's pain-free, and after that he'll need a little time to get ramped back up.

Goes on IL with fractured toe The Reds placed Candelario on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a fractured left great toe.
Impact Candelario played the duration of Monday's win over the Blue Jays, so it's not clear when he suffered the injury. It's also uncertain at this juncture how long he might be sidelined. Candelario has seen most of his playing time lately at designated hitter and first base. His absence could create more opportunities for Ty France, Jake Fraley and Will Benson, as well as new waiver claim Amed Rosario, who is taking Candelario's roster spot.

Reaches 20-homer mark Candelario went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Royals on Saturday.
Impact The Reds were thoroughly dominated in the contest, but Candelario at least prevented the team from being shut out with his seventh-inning solo blast. It was the infielder's 20th long ball of the campaign, marking the second straight season that he's reached that total. Though Candelario has experienced a drop in his batting average this season from .251 to .226, he's on pace to surpass last year's career-high marks of 22 long balls and 70 RBI.
AUGUST 18, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Hits 19th homer in win Candelario went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Cardinals.
Impact Candelario took Erick Fedde deep in the sixth inning for his 14th long ball at Great American Ballpark. After a disappointing July, he has hit safely in eight of 11 August contests with four extra-base hits and five RBI. On the season, the 30-year-old is hitting .228 with 19 homers, 55 RBI and 46 runs scored across 443 plate appearances.

Impact Candelario started the previous 34 games after missing some time in late June due to a hamstring issue, and he'll sit after going 0-for-3 Saturday to end a seven-game hit streak. Jonathan India will serve as the designated hitter while Santiago Espinal starts at second base.

Launches 17th home run Candelario went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in Monday's 7-1 win over the Cubs.
Impact Candelario took Nate Pearson deep in the eighth inning for one of three Reds homers on Monday. Candelario broke out of a minor slump that saw him go 3-for-36 over his last nine games. The 30-year-old now has 17 home runs this season, one behind Elly De La Cruz for the team lead. Candelario remains a fixture in the Reds lineup, hitting .228/.284/.440 with 50 RBI and four stolen bases through 94 games.
