Nets minors deal from Yankees
Candelario signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Saturday, Conor Foley of YES Network reports.
Impact
Candelario slashed only .113/.198/.213 across 91 plate appearances with the Reds before landing on the IL in late April with a back injury. After making a full recovery, the 31-year-old was released by Cincinnati on Sunday, and he'll now get a chance to redeem himself in the Yankees' minor-league system. If Candelario is able to return to form at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he could join the big-league roster at some point to provide infield depth down the stretch.

Cut loose by Reds
The Reds released Candelario on Sunday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact
After none of MLB's other 29 teams were willing to put in a waiver claim for Candelario, the Reds will be on the hook for the money remaining on three-year, $45 million deal that the 31-year-old corner infielder signed in December 2023. Given his ample experience at the big-league level, Candelario shouldn't have much trouble securing a contract in free agency, though he might have to settle for a minor-league deal after slashing just .113/.198/.213 with a 31.9 percent strikeout rate over 91 plate appearances in the majors this season.

Dropped from 40-man roster
The Reds reinstated Candelario (back) from the 10-day injured list Monday and designated him for assignment.
Impact
Though Cincinnati has received underwhelming production at third base from Santiago Espinal and Christian Encarnacion-Strand of late, management apparently didn't view Candelario as a short-term solution at the position now that the 31-year-old is healthy again after he had been on the shelf since April 30 due to a lumbar spine strain. Before landing on the IL, Candelario was batting just .113 with a career-high 31.9 percent strikeout rate over 91 plate appearances, and he didn't fare much better in an extended rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville, with whom he produced a .211/.318/.333 slash line in 15 games. Now that he's been DFA'd, Candelario will be exposed to waivers, but he's unlikely to find a suitor that's willing to take on the money remaining on his three-year, $45 million deal, which runs through 2026. Candelario could choose to become a free agent once he clears waivers.
