Impact Westbrook was removed from the Red Sox' 40-man roster earlier this week, but he has cleared waivers and will remain in the organization as utility depth. The 29-year-old has gone 6-for-40 at the dish during his time with the big club.

Impact Westbrook is the 40-man roster casualty with the Red Sox needing to clear some space following a bevy of transactions. The 29-year-old utility player is just 6-for-40 at the plate during his time in the majors in 2024.

Impact Westbrook saw regular reps at second base against left-handed pitching but did very little with them, going just 2-for-22 at the plate this month. Nick Sogard is taking his roster spot and will be the new short-side platoon bat at the keystone.

Impact Westbrook had occupied the keystone in seven of the Red Sox's last eight games, but his surge in playing time was mostly fueled by Boston facing a schedule that was heavy on left-handed pitching. The 29-year-old still looks to be stuck in the short side of a platoon at second base with David Hamilton, who will cover the position Monday while the Mariners send right-hander Logan Gilbert to the bump.

Inks NRI deal with Boston The Red Sox signed Westbrook to a minor-league contract Monday with an invitation to major-league spring training.

Impact Westbrook is 28 years old and has yet to appear in a big-league game, but he posted an impressive .294/.400/.496 slash line with 21 home runs over 496 plate appearances last season with the Triple-A affiliate of the Yankees. He'll function as organizational infield depth for Boston leading into the 2024 campaign.
