Notched first MLB steal
Wood went 2-for-3 with a run, an RBI and a stolen base in a 7-5 win against the Mets on Wednesday.
Impact
Wood was just 1-for-7 over his first two big-league games before notching his first multi-hit performance Wednesday. He also picked up his first big-league run, RBI and stolen base in the contest. Wood showed that he can come through in the clutch, as his seventh-inning RBI single broke a 5-5 tie and proved to be the decisive knock in Washington's win.

Collects first hit in debut
Wood went 1-for-4 with a walk in Monday's 9-7 loss to the Mets.
Impact
The 21-year-old recorded a hit in his first major-league plate appearance, knocking a single to left off David Peterson. Wood later worked a five-pitch walk in the 10th inning. After slashing .353/.463/.595 in 231 plate appearances at Triple-A, the Washington outfielder appears set to play every day in left field for the Nationals. Wood has all the tools to be a fantasy star, as he reached double-digits in both homers and steals -- 10 apiece -- with 37 RBI and 44 runs scored in 52 games with Rochester before his call-up.

Batting sixth in major-league debut
Wood will start in left field and bat sixth in Monday's contest versus the Mets.
Impact
The left-handed hitting Wood will go up against southpaw David Peterson in his major-league debut. Left-handers didn't bother the 21-year-old at all this season at Triple-A Rochester. In fact, he was a bit better versus them (1.089 OPS0 than he was against righties (1.047 OPS).

Looks ready for game action
Wood (hamstring) is expected to resume playing in games early this week, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
Impact
Golden's report doesn't specify whether Wood will embark on a rehab assignment with one of the Nationals' lower-level affiliates or if he'll immediately rejoin the Triple-A Rochester lineup, but either way, the 22-year-old looks close to making a return from the right hamstring injury that has kept him out of action since May 23. The injury may have temporarily halted any momentum Wood had for earning a call-up to the big leagues, but the outfielder still looks on track to make his Nationals debut at some point later in 2024. He's performed as one of the International League's top hitters when available this season, slashing .355/.465/.596 with nine home runs, 10 stolen bases and a 17.4 percent walk rate.

Lands on Triple-A IL
Wood (hamstring) was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday with right hamstring tightness, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
Impact
Wood tweaked the hamstring during a game last Thursday and has been sidelined ever since. It's not clear how much more time he might miss, but it means he won't be a candidate for a major-league promotion in the short term. Wood, 21, is slashing a robust .355/.465/.596 with nine home runs, 10 stolen bases and a 37:35 K:BB over 45 games with Rochester this season.

On-base machine at Triple-A
Wood has reached base safely in 28 straight games for Triple-A Rochester, slashing .379/.480/.650 over that stretch with seven homers, five steals and more walks (21) than strikeou...
Impact
The 21-year-old would seem to have nothing left to learn in the minors, but the Nationals have still been reticent to promote Wood to the majors despite the lackluster production they've been getting from the likes of Jesse Winker (.158/.284/.368 in May). Lane Thomas (knee) could also come off the IL this weekend, but Wood should still force his way into the starting nine for Washington by June unless the club is prioritizing his future contract years over improving an offense that sits 26th in runs scored, 26th in OPS and 25th in wRC+ on the season.

Meeting first challenge at Double-A
Wood has a .223/.319/.446 slash line, six home runs, five steals, an 11.3 percent walk rate and a 30.5 percent strikeout rate in 33 games for Double-A Harrisburg.
Impact
This run at Double-A has been the longest Wood has gone in his pro career without dominating, which shouldn't come as a surprise, given that he is still 20 and posted a 27.1 percent strikeout rate with High-A Wilmington earlier this season. All told this year, Wood has a .262/.360/.520 slash line, 14 home runs, 13 steals, a 28.6 percent strikeout rate, a 13.0 percent walk rate and a 30.8 percent hard-hit rate in 75 games across High-A and Double-A.

Rises to Double-A
The Nationals promoted Wood from High-A Wilmington to Double-A Harrisburg on Sunday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
Impact
The 20-year-old was advanced to the next rung on the minor-league ladder on the heels of slugging a home run for the third time in four starts in Wilmington's 7-5 win over Hudson Valley on Saturday. For the season, Wood -- one of the key pieces the Nationals acquired in the blockbuster deal last summer that sent Juan Soto to San Diego -- slashed .293/392/.580 with 22 extra-base hits, eight stolen bases and a 14.8 percent walk rate. Wood's production is made all the more impressive by the fact that he did much of his damage while playing in Wilmington's pitcher-friendly park.
