INJURIES

Dominant in spring training Brentz has allowed just one hit and one walk with three strikeouts over four innings in four Cactus League games.
Impact Brentz is looking to build off of a solid rookie campaign -- he went 5-2 with two saves, 15 holds, a 3.66 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 76:37 K:BB across 64 innings last season. The southpaw's strong start to the spring should keep him in the mix for high-leverage situations, along with the likes of Scott Barlow, Josh Staumont and Amir Garrett. Brentz isn't likely to see a lot of save chances early on, but he could help in fantasy formats that count holds.

Impact Brentz came on to pitch the seventh and took care of the Twins' hitters in order. The Royals would end up taking the lead in the top of the eighth and would hold on to give Brentz his fourth win of the season. It was the 26-year-old's first win since July 24, as he now owns a 3.17 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 70:36 K:BB over 59.2 innings.
SEPTEMBER 13, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Reinstated by Royals Brentz (shoulder) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Impact Brentz will return to the Royals' bullpen after a brief stay on the injured list, and he didn't require a rehab assignment prior to Wednesday's activation. The southpaw has made 17 relief appearances since the All-Star break and has recorded a 3.68 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 14.2 innings during that time.
SEPTEMBER 1, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Closing in on IL return Royals manager Mike Matheny said Sunday that Brentz (shoulder) could come off the 10-day injured list in the near future, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.
Impact Brentz hasn't been sent out on a minor-league rehab assignment since landing on the IL on Aug. 23 with an inflamed left shoulder, but Matheny's comments would seem to suggest the southpaw may not require one before rejoining the Royals. Prior to getting shut down with the injury, Brentz submitted a 3.15 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 64:34 K:BB In 54.1 innings while gathering two saves and 13 holds.

Out with shoulder injury Brentz was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday with a left shoulder impingement, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Notches second save Brentz earned the save against the Astros on Tuesday, pitching a scoreless ninth inning during which he allowed two walks and struck out two batters.
Impact Before Tuesday, Brentz hadn't seen a save chance since Aug. 5, but the Royals elected to bring him in to preserve a two-run, ninth-inning lead against baseball's top scoring team. He didn't make things easy for himself -- the southpaw threw only nine of 20 pitches for strikes and issued two free passes -- but he survived the wildness to notch the save. Brentz has been one of Kansas City's best relievers this season, posting a 3.21 ERA and 10.6 K/BB while collecting 12 holds despite a troublesome 5.7 BB/9. He appears to be near the top of the list for save chances among the team's closer committee.

Impact Brentz received the call to close out the game with a one-run lead for the first time this season. He retired the side in order for his first career save. The 26-year-old has a 3.21 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP with 54 strikeouts in 47.2 innings. Greg Holland and Scott Barlow are the regular ninth-inning guys, but they pitched the seventh and the eighth innings to preserve the lead. Brentz could receive more occasional save opportunities, but the Royals remain a closer-by-committee.
AUGUST 6, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Collects win Saturday Brentz (3-2) pitched a perfect inning and struck out two, earning the win in Saturday's 9-8 win over Detroit.
Impact Brentz put in a solid effort in the top of the seventh inning, and Kansas City rallied for five runs in the bottom half of the frame to take the lead. The southpaw had some struggles in late June that remained early in July, but he's put together four straight scoreless outings spanning 2.2 innings. He's posted a 2.91 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 52:27 K:BB with 11 holds across 43.1 innings overall, but an FIP of 4.40 indicates more regression could be on the way.
JULY 25, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Handed walkoff loss Brentz (2-2) allowed a walkoff solo home run and recorded his only out via strikeout while taking the loss Friday versus Cleveland.
Impact Brentz was called upon to get the last out of the eighth inning, and he fanned Franmil Reyes. In the ninth, Bobby Bradley took the southpaw deep for Cleveland's second straight walkoff win over Kansas City. Brentz has hit a rough patch, allowing eight runs (seven earned) in his last nine innings. He still has a solid 2.95 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 45:26 K:BB across 39.2 innings, but he may see more lower-leverage assignments until he works through his recent struggles.
JULY 10, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Takes loss Tuesday Brentz (2-1) allowed one run on one hit and a walk while striking out three over an inning to pick up the loss against the Red Sox on Tuesday.
Impact Brentz relieved Brad Keller in the sixth and tried to protect a one-run lead with nobody out and a man on first. He struck out and walked a batter before J.D. Martinez knocked a two-run double to right to push the Red Sox back in the lead at 7-6. Brentz was able to strike out the next two batters, but the damage was already done, and the Royals were unable to score another run. The 26-year-old lefty owns a 2.70 ERA and 42:24 K:BB over 36.2 innings in his first season at the major-league level.
JUNE 30, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Credited with win Brentz (2-0) allowed a run on a hit and a walk with one strikeout in one inning, earning the win versus the Yankees on Tuesday. He also hit a batter.
Impact The southpaw allowed a triple to Luke Voit, and Tyler Wade entered as a pinch runner, scoring on a wild pitch. Brentz was able to limit the damage to one run in the seventh inning, and Kansas City's offense pulled ahead with a four-run rally in the eighth. Brentz has given up a run in two of his last three outings after stringing together 14 scoreless appearances spanning 15 innings. He has a 2.14 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 39:20 K:BB across 33.2 innings this year. The 26-year-old has been effective, but with just seven holds in 35 outings, he has yet to work into a higher-leverage role.
JUNE 23, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up seventh hold Brentz pitched a perfect inning and struck out two to earn a hold in Friday's 5-3 win over Boston.
Impact Brentz saw a 15-inning scoreless streak end Wednesday when he gave up a run to Detroit. He bounced back well Friday with a clean inning. The 26-year-old has logged a 1.93 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 38:19 K:BB across 32.2 innings this year. While he's been an effective option with a win and seven holds in 34 outings, Brentz has yet to see any closing assignments in his first major-league campaign.
JUNE 19, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Steady option in bullpen Brentz has not allowed a run in his last 12 innings.
Impact In that span, the reliever has a 13:6 K:BB with just one hit allowed. He's picked up a win and three holds. Brentz has yet to work his way into a crowded closer committee, but he's done well with a 1.95 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 31:17 K:BB and six holds in 27.2 innings overall.
JUNE 7, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Logs hold Tuesday Brentz pitched 1.1 scoreless innings and struck out two to earn a hold in Tuesday's 2-1 win over Tampa Bay.
Impact Brentz has posted five scoreless innings across his last five outings. His hold Tuesday was his first since April 25 -- Kansas City endured a rough stretch of games earlier in May. Overall, the southpaw has a 2.61 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 23:13 K:BB, four holds and a win in 20.2 innings this season. He's been effective at keeping runs off the board, but a 4.05 FIP suggests he could face a bit of regression.
MAY 26, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up first career win Brentz (1-0) pitched just a third of an inning but secured the first win of his major league career in a 2-0 victory over the Brewers on Tuesday.
Impact Brentz entered in the eighth needing one out and did just that after getting Billy McKinney to ground out. The Royals then put up two runs in the bottom half of the frame which set him up for the win. The 26-year-old owns a 3.12 ERA, a 20:13 K:BB and has three holds over 17.1 innings in his first season at the big league level.
MAY 19, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Shaky inning Friday Brentz allowed one hit and two walks with one strikeout in one inning in Friday's 3-0 loss to the White Sox.
Impact Brentz had allowed three runs in his last 4.1 innings, but he was able to navigate through a tricky seventh inning Friday. The 26-year-old southpaw has a 3.14 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 16:9 K:BB in 14.1 innings this season. He's also picked up three holds -- while he's not likely to challenge for saves, Brentz has seen some usage in higher-leverage situations.
MAY 8, 2021 • ROTOWIRE

Impact Brentz relieved starter Danny Duffy to start the seventh inning. The 26-year-old Brentz needed just 11 pitches to finish the inning. He's been good through five appearances, allowing one hit and one walk with four strikeouts over four innings. If he continues to pitch well, Brentz could find himself in higher-leverage roles, although he's not yet expected to enter the saves conversation.
