Works out of bullpen Faria scattered two hits and struck out one over a scoreless inning of relief Friday in the Diamondbacks' 5-1 loss to the Cubs.

Impact Faria had posted a 4.85 ERA across 13 innings while starting in his final three appearances before the All-Star break, but he looks like he'll be the odd man out of the rotation with Arizona bringing back Madison Bumgarner and Zac Gallen from the injured list to begin the second half of the season. Expect most of Faria's opportunities out of the bullpen to come mostly in lower-leverage spots.

Strong in no-decision Faria did not factor into the decision during Thursday's loss to the Rockies. He allowed two runs on five hits and a pair of walks while striking out four across five innings.

Impact It was the longest and strongest outing of the season for Faria, who threw 86 pitches, including 55 for strikes. Despite the improved effort, the Diamondbacks have unfortunately lost all six of their contests with Faria on the mound, rendering a weak security in the rotation for the right-hander. Across six appearances (three starts), Faria has compiled a 4.76 ERA and 1.35 WHIP.

Surrenders four runs in four frames Faria got a no-decision in Saturday's 6-5 loss to San Francisco, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

Impact Faria's previous start earned him another turn in the rotation, and while he didn't pitch well Saturday, he did enough to keep the Diamondbacks in the game. Arizona has lost all five of the games in which Faria has made an appearance, though this was his worst outing to date.

Since he maxed out at 45 pitches across those three outings and most recently pitched an inning of relief Friday, Faria will likely face a limited workload in his first start for the Diamondbacks. He'll be joining the rotation as a replacement for Corbin Martin, who was recently optioned to Triple-A Reno.

Impact Faria didn't have to wait long to find a new employer after getting released by the Angels on Wednesday. The 27-year-old righty owns a respectable 4.54 ERA in 170.1 career major-league innings, but that's mainly due to a 3.43 ERA in his rookie year back in 2017. His ERA sits at 5.70 since the start of the 2018 season, but the Diamondbacks appear primed to give him big-league innings nonetheless. Ildemaro Vargas was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
