Entering rotation Monday Seymour is slated to start Monday's game against the Guardians in Cleveland, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Impact At least for one turn through the rotation, Seymour will take over the starting role that was vacated by Joe Boyle, whom Tampa Bay optioned to Triple-A Durham on Friday. Since being called up from Triple-A on July 31, Seymour has made five appearances out of the bullpen, but he covered 3.1 innings on Aug. 15 in San Francisco and three frames in his most recent appearance Tuesday versus the Yankees, so he should be reasonably stretched out as he makes his first MLB start. The 26-year-old lefty had previously been serving as a full-time member of the rotation at Durham, producing a 2.62 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 104:20 K:BB in 86 innings.

Impact Tampa Bay had optioned the lefty to Durham on Wednesday, but Seymour will rejoin the big club just one day later to take over the 26-man active roster spot that had belonged to right-hander Zack Littell, who was traded to the Reds. Seymour has worked exclusively in relief over his seven appearances with the Rays, but he's made 15 starts at Triple-A this season and could be an option to join the big-league rotation if Tampa Bay isn't yet ready to call right-hander Taj Bradley back up from Durham to replace Littell.

Tampa Bay called up right-hander Paul Gervase to replace Seymour in the bullpen.

Impact The 26-year-old southpaw's first stint in the big leagues lasted just two days, but he was able to scoop up a win in his lone relief appearance in Monday's 11-inning victory over Boston. Though he was charged with a blown save after allowing an unearned run in the bottom of the 10th to tie the game at 8-8, Seymour saw the Rays score two runs for him in the top of the 11th, then kept the Red Sox off the board in the bottom of the frame to seal the victory. Since Seymour threw 28 pitches in the appearance and was unlikely to be available for the next day or two, the Rays elected to swap him off the active roster for a fresh relief arm in Mason Englert, who was recalled from Triple-A. Seymour should slot back into the rotation as he makes his return to Durham.

Seymour is a lefty with a deceptive three-quarters delivery and a knack for keeping hitters off balance by changing speeds and landing all of his pitches for strikes. His fastball has averaged 89.6 mph (touched 91.6 mph) and he has thrown his changeup as much or more than his fastball while mixing in his cutter and seldom-used curveball and sweeper. Seymour is already on the 40-man roster and could join the big-league rotation whenever there is a need.

Impact The 25-year-old southpaw actually made two starts at Triple-A late in 2021 just to keep pitching after the High-A season wrapped up. Since then he's undergone Tommy John surgery and this is his first full season since the procedure. Seymour's fastball velocity isn't great (sits in the low-90s), but he's got a plus changeup and a quality slider.
