INJURIES

Rehab start on tap Manager Kevin Cash said Jax (elbow) is expected to make a rehab start for Triple-A Durham on Sunday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Impact The right-hander threw live batting practice with no issues and is now on the cusp of returning to game action. Jax landed on the injured list Aug. 9 due to the elbow issue and received an injection a couple days later. He was only briefly shut down from throwing and may only need one outing in the minors before being cleared to rejoin Tampa Bay's rotation.

Resumes throwing Jax (elbow) threw from 120 feet out Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Impact Manager Kevin Cash described Jax's throwing session Friday as "very, very good" and noted that the team is planning out the next stages of his build-up program. The 31-year-old will be eligible to return from the injured list next Friday but may need to spend slightly more time on the shelf before returning to Tampa Bay's rotation.

Set to resume throwing soon Jax (elbow) received an injection in right elbow after visiting with Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas, Ryan Bass of Rays.tv reports.
Impact Jax was placed on the 15-day injured list with right elbow discomfort Sunday, and manager Kevin Cash outlined that the injection was to "calm the back of the elbow down." Cash also explained that Jax is "in a really good spot," and that the team will, "take the ball out of his hand for two more days and then get him back throwing." Jax appears to have avoided the worst, and he could be on track for a return to action relatively close to when he's first eligible Aug. 21.

Rays place right-hander Griffin Jax on injured list with elbow discomfort

The Tampa Bay Rays placed right-hander Griffin Jax on the 15-day injured list Sunday with right elbow discomfort
AUGUST 9 • Associated Press
Lands on injured list The Rays placed Jax (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Sunday, retroactive to Aug. 6, Ryan Bass of Rays.tv reports.
Impact Jax was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday versus the Mariners due to right elbow discomfort, so the move to the injured list isn't much of a surprise. The 31-year-old will be eligible to be reinstated Aug. 21, though a longer absence could be in store given the nature of the injury. His status could be updated more soon as he continues to be evaluated.

Fans eight in ninth loss Jax (6-9) took the loss Sunday against the White Sox, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and no walks in five innings. He struck out eight.
Impact A fielding error by Jax himself with two outs in the opening inning kept two earned runs off his ledger, much to the delight of fantasy managers. Sunday thus went down as the right-hander's third consecutive start with just one earned run allowed, and Jax has certainly found his way as part of the starting rotation after beginning his first year with the Rays as a reliever. Over 82.2 innings as a starter, he's posted a 3.16 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 90:23 K:BB as opposed to an 8.00 ERA and 1.89 WHIP across nine frames out of the bullpen. Jax is next slated to take the ball in Seattle at pitcher-friendly T-Mobile Park.

Strikes out 10 in loss Jax (6-8) took the loss in Tuesday's matchup against the Rangers, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks while striking out in 10 in 5.2 innings.
Impact Jax tied his season-high in strikeouts with 10, while earning the loss Tuesday. Despite allowing just one earned run, the Rays' offense could not bail out Jax. On the season, the 31-year-old now owns a 3.74 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 92:30 K:BB through 86.2 innings. The right-hander is slated to make his next start against the White Sox on Sunday.

Gets win in six sharp innings Jax (6-7) got in the win column against the Blue Jays on Wednesday, allowing one run on three hits and a walk while striking out five across six innings.
Impact Jax only needed 83 pitches (57 strikes) to make it through six innings in the efficient win on Wednesday. The Rays did not take the lead until a three-run sixth inning put them ahead and scored Jax's fifth win in his last seven starts. In that stretch, Jax has pitched 37 innings, allowing 17 runs and striking out 39 to help him reach a 3.89 ERA and 1.22 WHIP on the season. The 31-year-old is slated to pitch next week against the Rangers.

Hammered coming out of break Jax (5-7) took the loss in the first game of Friday's doubleheader against the Red Sox, coughing up seven runs on eight hits and one walk over five-plus innings. He struck out six.
Impact The right-hander didn't get any help from his offense in a 10-0 rout, but Jax's efforts to keep the game close unraveled in the sixth inning when he led off the frame by hitting Caleb Durbin with a pitch, and then watched the next three Boston batters reach base before he got the hook. Jax tossed 55 of 85 pitches for strikes in his worst outing of the season, and it's the first time since June 1 he's been tagged for more than three runs. He'll take a 4.08 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 77:26 K:BB through 75 innings into his next start, which lines up to come on the road next week in Toronto.

Captures fifth win of 2026 Jax (5-6) earned the win against the Mariners on Saturday, allowing one run on four hits and three walks while striking out three across five innings.
Impact Jax's three punchouts were his lowest in a game since May 13 against the Blue Jays (one). However, the right-hander limited the Mariners to just one run and needed only 69 pitches (41 strikes) to get through five innings en route to his fourth win in his last five starts. Jax enters the All-Star break with a 3.47 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 71:25 K:BB across 70 innings (25 games, 14 starts).

Caballero hits 2 homers, Schlittler pitches 8 innings as the Yankees beat the Rays 5-1

Fans 10 but takes loss on long ball Jax (4-6) took the loss against the Yankees on Monday, allowing three runs on one hit and two walks while striking out 10 across five innings.
Impact Monday's series opener featured a pitching duel between Jax and Cam Schlittler, with the former retiring the first 13 batters he faced. However, Jax walked two-straight batters in the fifth, both of whom came home to score on a back-breaking, three-run home run by Jose Caballero. Jax struck out the next two batters in the frame to tie a career high in punchouts and finished his night with 16 whiffs on just 81 pitches (51 strikes), but he did not receive enough run support from his Rays teammates to avoid the loss. He'll take a 3.60 ERA and 1.22 WHIP over 65 innings into his next start, which is lined up for this weekend at home against the Mariners.
JULY 7 • ROTOWIRE
Earns third straight win Jax (4-5) earned the win Tuesday against the Royals, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out five over six innings.
Impact Jax surrendered all three of his runs via the long ball, as Carter Jensen led off the game with a homer and Bobby Witt added a two-run shot in the third inning. Fortunately, Tampa Bay's offense erupted for 10 runs while he was on the mound, giving him plenty of run support. Since allowing six runs over four innings on June 1, Jax has bounced back, posting a 1.73 ERA over his last five outings while riding a three-start winning streak. He now owns a 3.45 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 58:20 K:BB across 60 innings and is scheduled to face Houston on the road next.

Sharp in third win Jax (3-5) earned the win Wednesday over the Royals, allowing two unearned runs on five hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out seven.
Impact It was a strong outing for Jax, as he set a new season high with seven strikeouts. The right-hander has been excellent of late, allowing just two earned runs across 20 innings in his last four starts, while posting a 21:4 K:BB. Since moving into Tampa's rotation, Jax has posted a 2.27 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP and 41:13 K:BB across 11 starts (43.2 innings). He's tentatively lined up for a rematch with the Royals on the road his next time out.
