Sent out on rehab assignment Torres (oblique) will travel to Triple-A Toledo on Friday to begin a rehab assignment, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Impact Torres is expected to work out with Toledo for a day or two before getting into game action. He's been sidelined for nearly four weeks with a left oblique strain and is poised to return to the Tigers' active roster in early June, assuming all goes well on his rehab assignment.

Resumes swinging bat Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said that Torres (oblique) felt good while swinging in the batting cage Tuesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Impact Hinch noted that Torres will repeat the activity Wednesday, and if all goes well, the 29-year-old could move on to facing live pitching in batting practice. Once the Tigers are confident that Torres' strained left oblique isn't compromising him at the plate, he'll head out on a minor-league rehab assignment. Torres has been on the shelf since May 6 due to the injury.

Still unable to swing at full speed Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Wednesday that Torres (oblique) is still unable to swing a bat at full effort, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Impact Torres' left oblique strain no longer gives him any trouble during fielding drills, but the second baseman will not be sent out on a rehab assignment until he can swing a bat at full speed without discomfort. It should be a quick turnaround once Torres clears that hurdle, but for now he's in a holding pattern. Torres has been sidelined since early May.

Rehab assignment delayed Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Tuesday that Torres (oblique) is "still day-to-day" and "not ready" to begin a minor-league rehab assignment, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News repor...
Impact Though Hinch had expressed optimism in recent days that Torres was closing in on a return to game action, the Tigers apparently still want the veteran infielder to complete some more workouts before sending him out on an assignment. Torres doesn't seem to be dealing with any sort of setback in his recovery from a left oblique strain, as he was spotted on the field at Comerica Park on Tuesday going through an assortment of defensive drills in addition to some light hitting and running. Zach McKinstry and Hao-Yu Lee are likely to work in a platoon at second base until Torres is ready to return from the injured list.

Nearing rehab assignment Manager A.J. Hinch said Friday that Torres (oblique) is "trending toward" beginning a rehab assignment, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Impact Torres was eligible to be reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday, but it sounds like he's going to go out on a short rehab stint prior to rejoining the Detroit lineup. Torres has slashed .259/.389/.328 with two home runs, 11 RBI, 18 runs scored and a 25:22 BB:K across 144 plate appearances this season. Hao-Yu Lee is manning second base for the Tigers on Friday.

MAY 6 • MOTORCITYBENGALS.COM
Sent to IL with oblique strain The Tigers placed Torres on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to a mild left oblique strain, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Impact Torres had been out of the lineup for the last three games due to what the Tigers had been referring to as left side tightness, but follow-up tests evidently confirmed that the veteran infielder has been tending to an oblique strain. His IL stint will be retroactive to Sunday, but given the volatile recovery timelines for oblique strains, Torres is far from a lock to be activated when first eligible May 13. Detroit recalled Jace Jung from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move, but Hao-Yu Lee and Zach McKinstry are more likely to serve as Torres's primary replacements at second base.

Red Sox look to sweep series against the Tigers

MAY 6 • Associated Press
Sitting again Tuesday Torres (side) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Impact The veteran second baseman is sitting for a third consecutive game after exiting Saturday's contest due to left side tightness. According to Chris McCosky of The Detroit News, Torres said he's feeling better and plans to do some baseball work pregame Tuesday, which could allow him to be available off the bench.
MAY 5 • ROTOWIRE
Still battling side injury Torres (side) wasn't available to pinch hit Monday against the Red Sox, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Impact This update indicates that Torres is still being bothered by his left side injury, and it seems as though a trip to the injured list is very much on the table at this juncture. Skipper A.J. Hinch was hopeful that Torres may be able to pinch hit late in Monday's matchup, but Hinch noted after the game that the 29-year-old wasn't feeling healthy enough for an at-bat. Given this information, it's unlikely that Torres will be back in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game.
MAY 5 • ROTOWIRE
Out again, but available off bench Torres (side) remained out of the lineup for Monday's game versus the Red Sox.
Impact Torres departed Saturday's game against the Rangers with left side tightness and will now miss a second straight start. Per mmm, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said that Torres could be available to pinch hit Monday, suggesting the 29-year-old is likely to avoid the injured list. Hao-Yu Lee will start at second base in Monday's series opener.
MAY 4 • ROTOWIRE
Held out of Sunday's lineup Torres (side) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers.
Impact The second baseman departed Saturday's contest with left side tightness and will miss at least one game due to the injury. According to Chris McCosky of The Detroit News, Torres is expected to avoid a trip to the injured list since testing came back negative, so it appears he could be back in action within a few days.

Exits game with side tightness Torres was removed from Saturday's game against the Rangers due to left side tightness, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Impact It's not clear when Torres sustained the injury, but he was replaced by Hao-Yu Lee in the fourth inning after going 2-for-2 with an RBI single in the second frame. The Tigers should provide an update on Torres' status once the veteran second baseman undergoes further tests on his left side.

Impact Torres will get a breather Saturday following a stretch of 12 straight starts, during which he slashed .250/.389/.273 with three RBI and five runs scored. His absence will move Javier Baez into the keystone and give Matt Vierling a start in center field.
