Call-up official The Phillies selected Stubbs' contract from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Impact He'll join the big club as a replacement for top catcher J.T. Realmuto (back), who was placed on the 10-day injured list. Rafael Marchan will draw the start behind the plate in Wednesday's game against the Cubs and will likely see the larger share of playing time at catcher while Realmuto is out, though Stubbs should be in line for at least a couple starts per week. After failing to win a spot on the Phillies' Opening Day roster, Stubbs shined early on at Triple-A, slashing .289/.413/.632 with three home runs and three stolen bases across 46 plate appearances.

Promotion imminent The Phillies are expected to call up Stubbs from Triple-A Lehigh Valley prior to Wednesday's game against the Cubs, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Impact J.T. Realmuto (lower back) is headed to the injured list, so Stubbs will join up with the big club to provide the Phillies with a second option at catcher. According to Gelb, the Phillies are expected to have Stubbs split time behind the dish with Rafael Marchan, who beat out the former for the No. 2 job during spring training. In addition to making starts at catcher for Lehigh Valley, Stubbs has also seen action at third base and in left field this season.

Impact Stubbs was DFA'd after losing the race for the backup catcher job in Philadelphia to Rafael Marchan but will remain in the organization. The 32-year-old Stubbs slashed .265/.352/.402 across 307 plate appearances in Triple-A last season and would likely return to the majors if J.T. Realmuto or Marchan had to miss any amount of time.
