INJURIES

Stellar in relief Peralta struck out eight batters over four scoreless innings of relief in Monday's loss to the Twins. He allowed just one hit and walked just one batter in the outing.
Impact The Brewers moved Peralta from the rotation into a long-relief role last week, and he has been dominant since the switch, tossing seven scoreless frames over two outings while allowing just five hitters to reach base and punching out 14 of them.

Likely shifting to bullpen Peralta seems set to move to the bullpen with Eric Lauer starting Friday's game against the Reds, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.
Impact Peralta started July 26 against the Cubs and was pulled after allowing four runs over three innings, and he aleardy appeared to be the top candidate to exit the rotation with Brett Anderson returning from the injured list earlier this week. The Brewers didn't play any games last weekend due to the Cardinals' COVID-19 outbreak, so the team positioning Lauer in the rotation Friday is a solid indication of where Peralta currently stands in the pecking order.

Yanked early in loss Peralta (0-1) allowed four runs across three innings Sunday, striking out three batters and taking the loss against the Cubs. He allowed three hits and two walks.
Impact Peralta had allowed just one run through three innings but issued two walks and yielded a double to start the fourth innings before he was sent to the showers. Prior to Sunday's start, the 24-year-old right-hander wasn't guaranteed a regular spot in the rotation and his poor outing definitely didn't help his case. If he gets another turn, Peralta could face the Cardinals at home next weekend.

Available out of bullpen Sunday Lauer (COVID-19) was activated from the injured list and is available out of the bullpen Sunday against the Cubs, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Impact Getting the coronavirus cost Lauer a shot at opening the year in the rotation. The team's fifth stater, Freddy Peralta, is starting Sunday, so it would be logical for Lauer to follow him out of the bullpen if the situation calls for a left-handed pitcher who can log multiple innings.

Confirmed as Sunday starter Manager Craig Counsell said that Peralta will start the Brewers' third game of the season Sunday against the Cubs, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Impact Just a few days earlier, Peralta looked on track to make his 2020 debut next week in Pittsburgh, but Brett Anderson's (finger) move to the injured list resulted in the former being moved up in the pitching schedule. According to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Counsell told the media to not "get stuck" on traditional starting roles, so Peralta won't necessarily be guaranteed turns through the rotation every fifth day, nor can he be counted on to push toward 100 pitches in each start. Over his 22 career MLB starts, the 24-year-old has posted a 5.27 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 11.3 K/9.

Lines up for Sunday's start Peralta lines up to start Sunday in Chicago, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Impact He pitched Tuesday while Josh Lindblom pitches Wednesday, so that confirms the order of the Brewers' rotation. Peralta has a 5.27 ERA, 4.23 FIP, 1.31 WHIP, 29 percent strikeout rate and a 10.6 percent walk rate in 109.1 innings as a starter. He has had some spectacular starts when he is commanding his fastball, but has also been susceptible to short outings. If he struggles early, Brett Anderson (blister) or Eric Lauer (COVID-19) could step into the rotation once they are physically ready.

Competing with Burnes, Lauer Peralta is one of three options to win the Brewers' fifth starter job, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.
Impact He will be competing with Corbin Burnes and Eric Lauer. The Brewers could conceivably go with a six-man rotation where it's a tandem start on the sixth day, or they could just be very conservative with how deep they let the non Brandon Woodruff starters go. Peralta signed a five-year, $15.5 million contract extension in February, which should make it easier for him to accept any role the Brewers assign him for 2020.
