Another start on tap Manager Dave Roberts said he expects to include Rios in the lineup at designated hitter in the Dodgers' series opener Monday versus Atlanta, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

Impact Roberts didn't specify which member of the Dodgers' star-studded everyday lineup will be sitting Monday, but Max Muncy and Justin Turner have primarily rotated between DH and third base this season, making one of the two the logical candidate to sit. Rios has picked up two starts at DH to date, going 2-for-8 with a run.

Roster spot confirmed Rios will make the Dodgers' Opening Day roster, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

Impact Previous reports indicated that Rios would likely begin the season in the big leagues, and that's now been confirmed. He doesn't seem to have a path to a starting role, but the Dodgers like to give their players' plenty of rest, so he should feature fairly often. That of course assumes he hits better than the .078/.217/.137 line he managed in 60 trips to the plate last season. If his 1.272 OPS through 10 spring games is any indication, that shouldn't be a problem. Rios is talented enough to earn more playing time as the season goes on.

Impact Rios hit just .078 across 25 appearances with the Dodgers last year, but he has performed well in spring training by slashing .389/.522/.944 with three homers, a double, seven RBI, five runs and five walks across nine Cactus League games. He should take on a bench role while seeing some occasional playing time as an option in the corner infield and as a designated hitter.

Impact Rios' power potential is no secret, but the 27-year-old's 2021 campaign was derailed by a shoulder injury that limited him to 60 plate appearances. He belted eight homers in only 76 at-bats for the Dodgers in 2020, however, and it appears that he has rediscovered his power stroke this spring now that he's back to full health. Rios isn't going to be an everyday player among a loaded group of Los Angeles hitters, but he could fill an important role off the bench while getting an occasional start at DH and at the corner infield positions.

Impact Rios was a popular breakout candidate in 2021, but shoulder issues limited him to 60 MLB plate appearances and he eventually needed surgery in May to address a partially torn labrum. Things are still pretty crowded on the Dodgers' depth chart, especially after the Freddie Freeman signing, but Rios could get time at designated hitter in addition to the infield corners.
