Playing regularly against righties Harris will start in left field and bat seventh in Monday's game against the Reds.
Impact Since being called up from Triple-A El Paso on Aug. 24, the left-handed-hitting Harris has been included in the lineup for five of the Padres' six matchups with righties. He's gone 6-for-12 with a double, a stolen base and three runs following his call-up and should hold down the strong side of a platoon in the corner outfield while he's swinging a hot bat.

This extra-innings thriller ended on a ... hit-by-pitch? The Pirates’ 3-2 extra-inning victory over the Padres on Monday was full of quirks. Perhaps none were as rare as the final play, though, whe...
6 DAYS AGO • MLB.COM
Contract selected by San Diego The Padres selected Harris' contract from Triple-A El Paso on Monday.
Impact Harris inked a minor-league contract with the Padres before the All-Star break after being granted his release from the White Sox in early July. He has a 1.039 OPS with 10 steals, six homers and 26 RBI over 135 plate appearances with El Paso this season, and the move bolsters a Padres outfield that is without Ramon Laureano (hip), Samad Taylor (oblique) and Miguel Andujar (wrist). In corresponding moves, Sung-Mun Song was optioned to Triple-A and Lucas Giolito (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list.
AUGUST 24 • ROTOWIRE
Signs on with San Diego Harris signed a minor-league contract with the Padres on Wednesday.
Impact Harris, who elected free agency earlier in the month after opting out of a minor-league deal with the White Sox, will report to Triple-A El Paso. He's appeared in 17 big-league games this season across stops in Chicago and Houston, hitting .233 with five RBI, four stolen bases and six runs scored.
JULY 14 • ROTOWIRE
Opts out of deal Harris opted out of his minor-league contract with the White Sox on Thursday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Impact Rather than adding him to the major-league roster, Chicago granted Harris his release. The 26-year-old was DFA'd by Chicago in April and subsequently claimed off waivers by the Astros before being designated for assignment by Houston less than a month later. He quickly re-signed with the White Sox on a minor-league deal in May and slashed .312/.396/.490 with six homers, 26 RBI, 32 runs scored, nine stolen bases and a 19:35 BB:K across 183 trips to the plate with Triple-A Charlotte. Harris will now look for an opportunity elsewhere.
JULY 3 • ROTOWIRE
Back with ChiSox on MiLB deal The White Sox signed Harris to a minor-league contract Monday, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.
Impact It's a return to the organization Harris started with this season before he went from the White Sox to the Astros via waivers last month. In 17 games this season between both stops, Harris has slashed .233/.333/.302 with no home runs, four stolen bases and a 6:7 BB:K. He will report to Triple-A Charlotte.
MAY 11 • ROTOWIRE
Reaches free agency Harris elected to become a free agent Friday.
Impact Harris had been removed from the Astros' 40-man roster. He passed through waivers unclaimed, but the outfielder will seek employment in a new organization rather than accept an outright assignment.

Astros lose catcher Yainer Diaz 'for a while' because of a left oblique strain

Houston catcher Yainer Diaz has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain
MAY 5 • Associated Press
DFA'd by Astros The Astros designated Harris for assignment Tuesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact Harris appeared in 11 games after joining the Astros in mid-April, during which he went 7-for-31 (.226) at the plate with four RBI, four runs and two steals. He'll lose his place on the active roster to make room for Zach Dezenzo, who was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move.
MAY 5 • ROTOWIRE
Taking seat Monday Harris is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers.
Impact After starting each of the Astros' previous seven games and going 7-for-22 (.318 average) with two stolen bases, four RBI and two runs, Harris will head to the bench as Houston begins a three-game series with the Dodgers. Harris could be at risk of fading into more of a part-time role in the Houston outfield after the Astros recalled Zach Cole (toe) from Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday. Cole will replace Harris in the lineup Monday, manning left field while batting eighth.
MAY 4 • ROTOWIRE
Two hits, steal vs. Boston Harris went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Red Sox.
Impact Harris, who joined Houston off waivers from the White Sox earlier in the year, is now 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts this season. The 26-year-old outfielder has been playing nearly every day for the Astros with Joey Loperfido (quadriceps), Taylor Trammell (groin), Zach Dezenzo (elbow) and Jake Meyers (oblique) all on the IL. Harris has made the most of the opportunity, going 7-for-18 (.389) with four RBI and an .868 OPS in his last five games.

Ready to go Friday Harris (hand) is starting in left field and batting seventh Friday against the Yankees, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Harris was held out of the lineup Wednesday against the Guardians after suffering hand contusion Tuesday, but he's good to go after Thursday's team off day. Since being claimed off waivers April 18, Harris has gone 0-for-6 with a walk and two runs in three games with the Astros.

Yankees visit the Astros on 3-game road win streak

The New York Yankees visit the Houston Astros looking to continue a three-game road winning streak
APRIL 24 • Associated Press
Not starting Wednesday Harris (hand) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Harris had started in the Astros' first two games of the series and went 0-for-4 with a walk and two runs before being forced out of Tuesday's 8-5 loss in the bottom of the fifth inning after being hit in the left hand by a pitch in the top of the frame. Though the Astros have classified Harris' hand injury as a bruise, he's feeling sore enough that he'll be held out of the lineup Wednesday against a right-hander (Tanner Bibee). Houston will go with a starting outfield of Brice Matthews, Daniel Johnson and Cam Smith from left to right in the series finale.

Guardians and Astros play to determine series winner

Both the Cleveland Guardians and the Houston Astros are looking for a series win with a victory on Wednesday
APRIL 22 • Associated Press
Pulled with bruised hand Harris was removed from Tuesday's game against the Guardians with a left hand contusion, Julia Morales of Space City Home Network reports.
Impact Harris took a 93.6-mph sinker off his hand in the fifth inning of Tuesday's contest. He remained in the game to run for himself but was removed from the game when Houston went on defense. His diagnosis suggests he avoided a significant injury, though the Astros may look to keep him on the bench for a day or two as a precaution.
APRIL 22 • ROTOWIRE
Claimed by Houston The Astros claimed Harris off waivers from the White Sox on Saturday.
Impact Harris was designated by the White Sox for assignment Wednesday, and he'll now be a part of the Astros' organization after being claimed Saturday, though he'll likely be assigned to Triple-A Sugar Land. Harris appeared in six regular-season games for the White Sox, going 3-for-12 with two steals, one RBI and two runs scored.

White Sox call up another top prospect, selecting Sam Antonacci's contract from Triple-A

The White Sox have called up another top prospect
APRIL 15 • Associated Press
Booted from 40-man roster The White Sox designated Harris for assignment Wednesday.
Impact Harris will cede his spot on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster to one of the organization's top prospects in Sam Antonacci, who received a call-up from Triple-A Charlotte. After receiving a promotion of his own from Charlotte on April 7, Harris proceeded to go 3-for-12 with a double, two stolen bases and a 4:1 BB:K in six games for the White Sox. He'll now go through the waiver process and will have the ability to elect free agency if he goes unclaimed.

Sitting against lefty Harris is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.
Impact The left-handed-hitting Harris will take a seat for the second time in the series while the Royals send another lefty (Noah Cameron) to the bump. Harris had started the White Sox's previous three games against right-handed pitching and could have a hold on a strong-side platoon role until Chicago gets one of Kyle Teel (hamstring), Austin Hays (hamstring) or Everson Pereira (ankle) back from the injured list.
