INJURIES

Traded to Kansas City The Royals acquired Castillo from the Mets on Thursday in exchange for cash considerations.
Impact Castillo, 27, has slashed just .167/.217/.262 with one home run over 13 games with Triple-A Syracuse this season. He will give the Royals some utility depth at Triple-A Omaha.
MAY 23 • ROTOWIRE
Gets MiLB deal from NYM The Mets signed Castillo to a minor-league contract March 13.
Impact Castillo spent most of the 2024 season at the Triple-A level in the Orioles and Twins organizations, hitting .261/.364/.397 across 113 contests. He'll give the Mets some utility player depth at Triple-A Syracuse.
MARCH 20 • ROTOWIRE
Outrighted to Triple-A The Twins outrighted Castillo to Triple-A St. Paul on Friday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.
Impact Castillo had been removed from the 40-man roster earlier this week following a brief stint with the big club. He could have elected free agency but instead has accepted the outright assignment and will remain in the organization as utility depth.
JULY 26, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Loses roster spot The Twins designated Castillo for assignment Wednesday.
Impact He'll give up his spot on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster to right-hander Brock Stewart (shoulder), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list prior to Wednesday's game against the Phillies. After getting a call-up from Triple-A St. Paul on July 14, Castillo appeared in just four games while going 2-for-6 with a double, two walks, three runs and two RBI.
JULY 24, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Summoned from Triple-A The Twins selected Castillo's contract from Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday. He'll start at third base and bat seventh in the Twins' series finale in San Francisco.
Impact Castillo joined the Twins' 26-man active roster as replacement for infielder Jose Miranda, who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a low back strain. Over his 283 plate appearances with St. Paul this season, Castillo slashed a respectable .269/.375/.399 with five home runs and seven stolen bases while seeing action at all four infield spots as well as right field. He'll likely see most of his starts against left-handed pitchers like the Giants' Blake Snell while he's up with the big club.
JULY 14, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Promotion pending The Twins are expected to call up Castillo from Triple-A St. Paul, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact Minnesota is currently dealing with several injuries in the infield and Castillo is expected to take the 26-man roster spot of the IL-bound Jose Miranda (back). Castillo has just one big-league at-bat in his career and is slashing .269/.375/.399 with five homers and seven stolen bases across 283 games with St. Paul. The 26-year-old should see plenty of work at third base and could mix in at second base or shortstop if needed. The Twins will need to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for Castillo.
JULY 14, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Diego Castillo struggled in 2023, but he's given Texas Rangers something to think about Castillo's velocity isn't where it once was with the Tampa Bay Rays, but he's "part of the competition" for a bullpen spot.
MARCH 5, 2024 • DALLASNEWS.COM
Assigned to Norfolk Castillo was assigned to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday after clearing outright waivers, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
Impact The Orioles DFA'd Castillo on Sunday after claiming him off waivers two days prior. He has been with five different organizations this offseason but will stay in Baltimore's system for the time being. Castillo played 124 games for the Diamondbacks' Triple-A affiliate last season and finished with a .313/.431/.410 line, three home runs and 72 RBIs across 556 plate appearances.
FEBRUARY 20, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Loses 40-man roster spot Castillo was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Friday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Impact The move was made in order to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for the return of Lourdes Gurriel. Castillo received just one plate appearance with Arizona in 2023 but slashed .313/.431/.410 at Triple-A Reno. As a 26-year-old with defensive versatility, Castillo could draw some interest on waivers.
DECEMBER 22, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Optioned to Reno The Diamondbacks optioned Castillo to Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.
Impact A day after coming up from the minors, Castillo will head right back to Triple-A after going 0-for-1 during Monday's contest. Castillo holds an impressive .892 OPS in Reno this season, so there's a good chance he returns to Arizona later this summer if he continues to produce.
AUGUST 1, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Back in majors The Diamondbacks recalled Castillo from Triple-A Reno on Monday.
Impact Josh Rojas was sent to Seattle as part of the Paul Sewald trade, so Castillo will join the major-league squad to make up for lost depth. The 25-year-old infielder has yet to play in a big-league game this season, but he's slashed .340/.442/.450 across 370 plate appearances in Triple-A.
JULY 31, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Shifts to Triple-A Castillo was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Sunday.
Impact Castillo was acquired by the Diamondbacks in December and had a solid showing in spring training with a .270/.325/.459 slash line in 17 contests, but it wasn't enough to give him a spot on the Opening Day roster. The 25-year-old had a .633 OPS over 96 games in his first taste of MLB action with the Pirates last year.
MARCH 19, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Returns to lineup Castillo (neck) is back in the Diamondbacks' Cactus League lineup Friday versus the Rockies.
Impact He tweaked his neck when he collided with teammate Gerardo Perdomo (chest) on Wednesday, but both players are back in action Friday. Castillo is at second base and batting seventh.
MARCH 17, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Could return to lineup soon Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Castillo (neck) could return to Arizona's lineup within the next couple of days, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Impact After colliding with Geraldo Perdomo (chest) while fielding a ground ball Wednesday against the Brewers, Castillo and Perdomo each were removed from the game. Luckily, both of their injuries seem to be minor and won't impact their status for Opening Day. Castillo is currently 9-for-33 at the plate this spring with two RBI and a stolen base.
MARCH 16, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Suffering from neck spasms Castillo was removed from Wednesday's spring game due to neck spasms, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact Castillo and Geraldo Perdomo (chest) collided on the first play of the game and were removed after spending several moments on the ground. They walked off the field under their own power, but the extent of the injuries were not immediately known. The Diamondbacks later confirmed Perdomo suffered a chest contusion while Castillo is dealing with neck spasms.
MARCH 16, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Leaves game early Castillo was removed from Wednesday's game against Milwaukee after colliding with Geraldo Perdomo, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Impact Luckily, both players were able to walk off the field without assistance, but the situation is still something to keep an eye on. The D-backs will take a look at the two infielders and should provide an update fairly soon.
MARCH 16, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Lands in the desert Castillo was acquired by the Diamondbacks from the Pirates on Friday in exchange for minor-league right-hander Scott Randall.
Impact Castillo had been designated for assignment earlier this week. The 25-year-old had an uneven rookie season in 2022 while splitting time between the Pirates and Triple-A Indianapolis, finishing with a .633 OPS and 11 homers with the big club. He's got an interesting bat and is versatile, though, making him a worthy acquisition by Arizona. Castillo will attempt to win a spot on the Diamondbacks' Opening Day roster.
DECEMBER 23, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Designated for assignment Castillo was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Tuesday, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
Impact Castillo went back and forth between Pittsburgh and Triple-A Indianapolis in 2022, slashing .206/.251/.382 through 283 major-league plate appearances. The Pirates' decision to remove Castillo from the 40-man roster comes as a direct consequence of signing Austin Hedges.
DECEMBER 20, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Two doubles, RBI in win Castillo went 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's win over the Cardinals.
Impact Castillo notched an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning before coming around to score on a Ji Hwan Bae groundout. He later added another double in next at-bat in the sixth frame. The two-hit performance was his first since July and he finished the four-game series with the Cardinals having gone 4-for-12 with three doubles, an RBI and two runs scored. Castillo will finish the 2022 season with a .206 average, 11 homers, 29 RBI, 28 runs and a stolen base over 262 at-bats in 96 contests with the Pirates.
OCTOBER 6, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Sent to minors Castillo was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.
Impact Castillo has been up in the majors all season but has seen limited playing time of late, and he'll head to the minors while in the midst of a 2-for-19 slump. Overall the 24-year-old has a .201/.245/.368 slash line with 10 home runs and 25 RBI in 84 games this year. Bryan Reynolds was reinstated from the paternity list in a corresponding move.
JULY 31, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Looks like reserve player Castillo will start in right field and bat fifth in Sunday's game against the Rockies.
Impact Though he's back in the lineup for the series finale while lefty Austin Gomber takes the bump for Colorado, the righty-hitting Castillo was on the bench in both of the previous two games, when the Rockies brought right-handers to the hill. As such, Castillo looks to be stuck in the short side of a platoon at the moment.
JULY 17, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Riding pine against righty Castillo is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.
Impact Castillo will take a seat against right-hander Pablo Lopez after he went 8-for-24 with two home runs, two walks, five RBI and two additional runs while starting each of the past seven games. With Bryan Reynolds (oblique) landing on the 10-day injured list Monday, the Pirates have a regular spot open in the outfield, and Castillo and Jake Marisnick look to be the primary candidates to play alongside Jack Suwinski and Ben Gamel. It'll be Marisnick who is rewarded with the start Wednesday after he hit home runs in both of his first two games since returning from the 60-day IL.
JULY 13, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Taking advantage of opportunity Castillo went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI on Monday against the Marlins.
Impact Castillo has started six consecutive games, though he has been aided by the fact that the Pirates have faced four lefties in that span. He's taken advantage of the opportunity, maintaining a .300 average with two homers, five RBI and three runs scored across his last 22 plate appearances. Despite his ability to play multiple positions, Castillo may find playing time harder to come by in the near future with Ben Gamel, Jake Marisnick and Kevin Newman all back in the mix.
JULY 12, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Playing regularly in utility role Castillo will start in right field and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Brewers.
Impact Castillo doesn't possess a regular spot in the lineup at any position, but he'll nonetheless pick up his fifth straight start Sunday. The last three of his starts have come in right field, but the Pirates are expected to roll out an outfield of Ben Gamel, Bryan Reynolds and Jack Suwinski in most games. Castillo will get the nod in right field for the series finale while the slumping Suwinski takes a seat.
JULY 10, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Blasts 10th home run Castillo went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and an additional run scored in a 4-3 loss to the Brewers on Friday.
Impact Castillo was the only Pirate who could get to Brewers starter Aaron Ashby, and he did so in a big way with a two-run shot to left center. The backup utility player now has 10 long balls on the season to go along with 23 RBI in 205 at bats. Despite showing a bit of pop in his bat, Castillo has struggled to get on base all season long and sports a downtrodden .244 OBP. He is likely to remain in a backup role unless he can improve his 4.6% walk rate.
