Lands on IL with shoulder strain
The Mets placed Williams on the 15-day injured list Monday with a right shoulder strain.
Impact
Williams missed time recently with what was described as right arm fatigue, and now he's shelved with a strained shoulder. The Mets have not revealed a timetable for Williams' return, but with seven weeks remaining in the season, it's possible the 31-year-old doesn't make it back. The only player on the Mets' active roster other than Williams to record a save this season is Daniel Duarte, who picked up his second career save last week when Williams was unavailable. Duarte could be the next man up to close for the Mets, but a committee approach might be likelier.

Overcomes arm fatigue
Williams has been nursing right arm fatigue but is available out of the Mets' bullpen for Thursday's game in Cleveland, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports.
Impact
He was unavailable Wednesday, leading to Daniel Duarte closing things down to notch his second career save. Williams will be ready for a save opportunity Thursday should one present itself, and the Mets do not seem concerned at this point that Williams' fatigue will be a recurring issue.

Locks down 16th save
Williams secured the save Thursday against the Marlins, allowing no runs on no hits and one walk in a scoreless ninth inning. He struck out two.
Impact
The Marlins made things a bit interesting with a leadoff walk in a two-run game, but Williams responded by striking out the next two hitters he faced and then induced a game-ending popup by Javier Sanoja. It's been an adventure at times this season for the 31-year-old right-hander, but he's delivered five consecutive scoreless outings and converted three straight save opportunities. For the year, Williams has a 4.17 ERA, a career-worst 1.58 WHIP and 51:20 K:BB with 16 saves in 19 chances over 36.2 innings.

Notches 15th save
Williams recorded his 15th save of the season in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against Atlanta, giving up a hit and striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning.
Impact
The Airbender needed 18 pitches (12 strikes) to protect a 3-2 lead, giving up a two-out single to Mauricio Dubon before fanning Austin Riley to end the matinee. Williams has had a bumpy first season with the Mets, and since the beginning of June he's produced a 2.70 ERA and 20:6 K:BB over 16.2 innings, but his 1.56 WHIP and contributed to blowing two of his nine save chances during that span.

Locks down 14th save
Williams secured the save Thursday against the Phillies, throwing a clean ninth inning. He struck out one.
Impact
After blowing back-to-back saves, Williams got back on track Thursday and recorded career save No. 100 in the process. The 31-year-old right-hander, who has remained New York's closer despite shaky results in 2026, could see his hold on the ninth-inning role strengthen if the Mets choose to eventually move setup man Luke Weaver, who's a rumored trade candidate ahead of the Aug. 3 deadline. Through 32.2 innings, Williams has a 4.68 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 45:19 K:BB with 14 saves in 17 chances.
