Impact The decision at least slightly improves Martin's fantasy appeal, as he'll skip the Rangers' best bats the first time through the order and won't have to pitch five innings to be eligible for a win. That's not to say he has all that much appeal even after that small boost, however, as the unheralded rookie and 2018 14-round pick owns a modest 4.35 ERA and 17.4 percent strikeout rate through two major-league starts after posting a 4.71 ERA and 19.5 percent strikeout rate in four Triple-A outings.

Struggles early in second start Martin (0-2) took the loss Friday versus the Rays, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks with one strikeout in 5.1 innings.

Impact Vince Velasquez (groin) went on the injured list Friday, and Martin was called up from Triple-A Charlotte to make the start. All four of the runs on his line came in the first inning, which was capped off by a two-run home run from Randy Arozarena. In 10.1 big-league innings this year, Martin has allowed five runs, 10 hits and four walks with eight strikeouts. He tentatively lines up for a difficult home start versus the Dodgers next week if he stays in the rotation throughout Velasquez's absence.

Candidate for rotation spot General manager Rick Hahn said Saturday that Martin could join the White Sox's rotation after Dallas Keuchel was designated for assignment, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Impact The right-hander made his major-league debut against the Royals on May 17, and he allowed a run on five hits and a walk while striking out seven in five innings to take the loss. Although he was sent down following the start, both Martin and Vince Velasquez are in the mix to take Keuchel's spot in the White Sox's rotation. Even if Martin joins the major-league rotation next week, he'll likely return to the minors or take on a bullpen role once Lance Lynn (knee) is cleared to return.

Impact Making his big-league debut, Martin kept Kansas City mostly in check over 91 pitches (64 strikes), but he got out-dueled by Brady Singer and had no margin for error.
