Makes MLB bullpen Manager Matt Quatraro informed Lynch on Saturday that he made the Royals' Opening Day roster, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Impact Lynch turned in a 6.19 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 16 innings this spring while competing for a spot in Kansas City's rotation. However, the 28-year-old southpaw proved to be much more effective out of the bullpen last season, so the Royals will keep him around for Opening Day and presumably use him in a multi-inning role.

Poised for bullpen role Lynch is expected to open the season in the Royals' bullpen, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Impact He had been competing with Kris Bubic for the final spot in the rotation, but Lynch made a relief appearance Wednesday and is set for another one Friday as the Royals prep him for a bullpen role. Lynch proved to be a weapon in relief last season, collecting a 1.84 ERA and 27:8 K:BB over 29.1 regular-season innings.

Impact Kris Bubic was seen as the leading candidate for the fifth starter role but he's struggled a bit this spring with a 5.59 ERA but 8:2 K:BB ratio in 9.2 innings. It's more likely Lynch begins the season in the bullpen, but he could join the rotation if there's an injury especially with Alec Marsh dealing with a shoulder injury.

Earns second win Lynch (2-0) allowed two hits and a walk while striking out two over 2.2 scoreless innings to earn the win over the Nationals on Wednesday.
Impact Michael Lorenzen (lower body) was pulled in the third inning, allowing Lynch to snag a win in a long-relief assignment. After struggling in a starting role in the first half, Lynch has thrived out of the bullpen. He has not allowed a run over 18.2 innings while giving up just seven hits with a 21:4 K:BB since he was recalled to the majors in late August. In that span, he's also earned both of his wins and a save.

Collects first win Lynch (1-0) allowed a hit and struck out four without walking a batter over three scoreless innings to earn the win Saturday over the Twins.
Impact Lynch served as a de facto piggyback reliever after starter Alec Marsh went five innings. The Royals' four-run rally in the eighth inning put Lynch in position to be the pitcher of record, and Lucas Erceg was able to lock down the save. Lynch hasn't allowed a run over 7.2 innings across five appearances since he rejoined the major-league roster in late August. He's now at a 4.75 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 22:9 K:BB through 30.1 innings over 10 outings (three starts) this year. He is likely to end the campaign in a multi-inning relief role as long as he stays in the majors.

Impact The southpaw was called up from Triple-A Omaha earlier in the day to provide some length to the Royals' bullpen, and Lynch finished up a 9-4 win in the nightcap with a 34-pitch outing. He's been effective in Triple-A since being sent down in mid-June, posting a 2.80 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 61:19 K:BB through 12 starts and 74 innings, but Kansas City doesn't have room in its big-league rotation for the 27-year-old at the moment.

Returns to majors The Royals recalled Lynch from Triple-A Omaha on Monday.
Impact Lynch will be available to eat some innings out of the bullpen during Monday's doubleheader in Cleveland. The left-hander has made three starts and two relief appearances in the majors this season, collecting a 6.35 ERA and 15:8 K:BB over 22.2 innings.

No-decision in spot start Lynch allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and struck out two without walking a batter in a no-decision Thursday versus the Twins.
Impact Lynch got the nod for a spot start when Brady Singer (illness) was deemed unavailable to pitch Thursday. The three runs on Lynch's line came on a pair of home runs by Ryan Jeffers, though the Kansas City southpaw still left the game with a lead before Chris Stratton squandered it in the sixth inning. Lynch has a 1.50 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 8:2 K:BB over 12 innings across three outings (two starts) at the major-league level. Assuming Singer can rejoin the rotation for his next start, Lynch may either be moved to the bullpen or sent back to Triple-A Omaha for a fresher arm.

Royals right-hander Brady Singer a late scratch at Minnesota because of illness

The Kansas City Royals scratched starting right-handed pitcher Brady Singer from the lineup because of illness less than three hours before their afternoon game at Minnesota
MAY 30, 2024 • Associated Press
Recalled for spot start The Royals recalled Lynch from Triple-A Omaha on Thursday.
Impact Lynch will make a spot start Thursday in Minnesota in place of Brady Singer (illness), according to Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star. The left-hander has made one start and one relief appearance with the Royals this season, tossing a combined seven shutout frames with a 6:2 K:BB. He's had a more difficult time with Omaha, however, collecting a 4.76 ERA and 34:13 K:BB over 45.1 innings. Unless Singer's illness results in him landing on the injured list, Lynch will likely be sent back down to Omaha after Thursday's start.

Impact Lynch was promoted from Triple-A Omaha ahead of Sunday's start and he certainly stepped up his game, blanking the defending champs over five frames. The left-hander was able to work around three baserunners in the first inning to set the tone and ultimately went on to pitch four more scoreless innings in his first major-league outing of the year. Lynch could remain in the starting rotation for Kansas City for the time being with Alec Marsh (elbow) still unavailable. If he gets another turn in the rotation with the big-league club, Lynch's next start is tentatively set to come on the road against the Angels next weekend.

Pitching in Arizona Fall League Lynch (shoulder) is pitching in an Arizona Fall League game Thursday, Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com reports.
Impact Lynch missed most of the second half due to a shoulder injury, but he logged one rehab start with Triple-A Omaha in late September and is now making up for lost time in the AFL. The 26-year-old left-hander could be a candidate for an Opening Day rotation spot with the Royals in 2024 if his health cooperates.
