Moves to 60-day IL Johnson (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Monday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Impact Johnson landed on the injured list with a sprained right shoulder Aug. 10, and manager Kevin Cash said the right-hander will miss "significant time." As a result, it's not very surprising to see the 31-year-old move to the 60-day IL, which will force him to miss the remainder of the regular season. Whether Johnson could be available for the postseason remains to be seen, but right-hander Chris Ellis' contract was selected as part of Monday's transaction.

Impact Tampa Bay initially feared that Johnson might be dealing with structural damage to his shoulder after the right-hander experienced a cracking sensation during his appearance Sunday against the Orioles, but follow-up tests revealed that he was dealing with a sprain instead. The Rays haven't provided a timeline for Johnson's return to action, but the reliever will presumably need more than the minimum 10 days to recover from the injury. Louis Head was called up from Triple-A Durham to take Johnson's spot in the bullpen.

Impact Johnson fell to the ground after sailing a pitch to the backstop during the sixth inning and was pulled from the contest. He recorded two outs without allowing a baserunner before suffering the injury.

Impact After he was acquired from Cleveland on Friday, Johnson never appeared in a game for Durham before he was summoned to the big club. He'll join the Tampa Bay bullpen as a replacement for Jeffrey Springs (knee), who was placed on the injured list in a corresponding move. Johnson is expected to work mainly in lower-leverage spots while he's up with the Rays.
