Impact Altavilla and San Diego won't require an arbiter during the offseason after agreeing to a one-year contract Friday. The right-hander was included on the team's NLDS roster in 2020 after he was acquired by the Padres at the trade deadline. He should take on a middle-relief role in 2021 after posting a 5.75 ERA and 1.48 WHIP over 20.1 innings with the Mariners and Padres during the shortened 2020 campaign.

Impact Altavilla was responsible for a two-run double by Luis Torrens in the third inning, and the Padres were unable to get the reliever off the hook. The 28-year-old Altavilla began his Padres career with three straight scoreless outings, but he's now allowed three runs over his last two appearances. In 18 appearances between the Padres and the Mariners, the righty has a 7.02 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 21 strikeouts in 16.2 innings.

Impact Altavilla has been inconsistent out of the Mariners' bullpen to begin the season, but he'll join San Diego's strong bullpen as part of Sunday's blockbuster deal. The right-hander has made 13 appearances in Seattle this season, posting a 7.71 ERA and 14:7 K:BB over 11.2 innings while recording one save. He likely won't pitch in as many higher-leverage situations with the Padres given the team's depth in the back end of the bullpen.

Impact Altavilla's outing started out harmlessly enough when he retired the first two batters he faced, but he ultimately surrendered a two-run single to Matt Kemp after putting Garrett Hampson, Trevor Story and Charlie Blackmon on. Altavilla was subsequently charged with an additional run after exiting for his second three-run outing over the last four appearances. Those are Altavilla's only hiccups thus far this season across six trips to the mound, but they've been enough to push his ERA to a bloated 9.53 across 5.2 innings.
