Free agency decisions for Semien, Ray loom over Jays' winter

Marcus Semien sounded like a man with unfinished business in Toronto after his Blue Jays endured a near-miss finish in the AL wild-card race

Sits against lefty Dickerson is on the bench for Sunday's game against the Orioles.
Impact As usual, Dickerson is relegated to the bench with a southpaw starting for Baltimore. Given the importance of the game, however, he figures to replace starting right fielder Randall Grichuk if the Orioles bring in a righty reliever at some point.
OCTOBER 3, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Takes seat Saturday Dickerson isn't starting Saturday's game against Baltimore.
Impact Dickerson has started against just six left-handers this season, and he'll retreat to the bench with southpaw John Means on the mound for the Orioles on Saturday. Teoscar Hernandez will shift to left field while Randal Grichuk takes over in right.

Supplants Grichuk on depth chart Dickerson will start in left field and bat seventh Wednesday against the Yankees.
Impact He'll put a six-game hitting streak on the line while he makes his fifth consecutive start in left field. Dickerson looks to have supplanted Randal Grichuk as a regular in the Toronto outfield versus right-handed pitching, but the lefty-hitting Dickerson is still expected to lose work to Grichuk against southpaws.

Swipes bag in win Dickerson went 1-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base in Saturday's 6-1 win over Minnesota.
Impact The 32-year-old isn't known for his speed, as he's now just 5-for-10 in stolen base attempts this year. Dickerson has hit safely in six of his last seven games, going 7-for-15 in that span, although only one of those hits has gone for extra bases. He's slashing .270/.328/.400 with five home runs, 26 RBI, 41 runs scored and 16 doubles in 344 plate appearances between Toronto and Miami this year. Dickerson could see a slight uptick in playing time as long as Lourdes Gurriel (hand) is out.

Twins bump Blue Jays back in wild card race, as Gurriel hurt

The Minnesota Twins beat Toronto 7-2 to bump the Blue Jays back in the AL wild-card race
SEPTEMBER 24, 2021 • Associated Press
Not starting Wednesday Dickerson isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Rays.
Impact Dickerson went 0-for-3 in Tuesday's loss, and he'll be excluded from the lineup for the fourth time in the last five games. Randal Grichuk will start in center field and bat eighth. With a pair of back-to-back three-hit games, Grichuk may have at least temporarily supplanted Dickerson for an everyday spot in the outfield versus right-handed pitching.

SEPTEMBER 15, 2021 • Associated Press
Remains on bench Dickerson will sit for the third straight game Monday against the Rays.
Impact Dickerson had been claiming a spot as the Blue Jays' primary center fielder earlier this month, starting five out of eight games there from Sept. 4 through Sept. 11. He hasn't started since then, but that may be purely for matchup reasons. Toronto's last two games came against left-handed starters, while southpaw Ryan Yarbrough is expected to handle the bulk of the innings Monday. Randal Grichuk remains the starter in center field.
SEPTEMBER 13, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Not starting Sunday Dickerson is on the bench for Sunday's series finale in Baltimore.
Impact Consecutive hitless performances have lowered Dickerson's average to .250 with a double and an RBI in his last 10 games. Randal Grichuk is playing center field and batting sixth Sunday.
SEPTEMBER 12, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
On bench for nightcap Dickerson isn't starting the second game in Saturday's doubleheader against the Orioles.
Impact Dickerson started Saturday's matinee and went 0-for-3 with a run, a walk and a strikeout. Randal Grichuk will take over in center field and bat eighth.
SEPTEMBER 12, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Sitting again Friday Dickerson is not starting Friday against Baltimore.
Impact He'll sit for the second night in a row as Jarrod Dyson mans center field. While Dickerson likely won't see everyday at-bats down the stretch, he should get ample opportunities against right-handed starters.
SEPTEMBER 10, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Not in lineup Thursday Dickerson isn't starting Thursday's game against the Yankees.
Impact Dickerson has taken over as the primary center fielder recently, but he'll get a breather after he went 1-for-9 with five strikeouts across the last three games. Randal Grichuk will start in center field and bat seventh.
SEPTEMBER 9, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Leapfrogs Grichuk on depth chart Dickerson will start in center field and bat leadoff Wednesday against the Yankees.
Impact Dickerson is unlikely to become a permanent fixture in Toronto lineup versus right-handed pitching if George Springer (knee) avoids another trip to the injured list, but at this point, Dickerson may have solidified an everyday role. He'll start in center field for the fourth time in five games, while the struggling Randal Grichuk has started only once during that span. Since returning from the injured list Aug. 3, Dickerson is slashing .277/.310/.470, with his .780 OPS representing a major upgrade over Grichuk's same mark (.571) in that sam stretch of action.
SEPTEMBER 8, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Adds steal in win Dickerson went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's 5-4 win over Baltimore.
Impact The outfielder is still under .500 in stolen-base attempts, as Wednesday's theft put him at 4-for-9 on the year in that category. Dickerson is still solid with the bat, slashing .270/.325/.410 through 302 plate appearances between Toronto and Miami. He should continue to see a regular role against right-handed pitching while serving as Toronto's fourth outfielder.
SEPTEMBER 2, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Won't start Sunday Dickerson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.
Impact The lefty-hitting Dickerson will take a seat for the series finale with southpaw Matthew Boyd on the bump for Detroit. Alejandro Kirk will get a turn as Toronto's designated hitter, while Lourdes Gurriel, Randal Grichuk and Teoscar Hernandez form the outfield from left to right.
