Resumes on-field work
Tucker has been dealing with an illness recently but resumed on-field work Tuesday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact
Tucker was sent to Triple-A Indianapolis on June 6, but he hasn't appeared in a game since June 13 due to a bronchitis-type issue. However, he wasn't placed on the minor-league injured list and is expected to return to game action in the near future.

Sent to minors
The Pirates optioned Tucker to Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday, Jake Crouse of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Tucker will cede his spot on the 26-man active roster to infielder Colin Moran (groin), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Sunday's series finale against the Marlins. During his two-week stint with the big club, Tucker made only three starts and appeared in eight games in total, going 2-for-15 at the dish.

Set for season debut
Tucker was called up by the Pirates on Friday, Stephen J. Nesbitt of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Tucker was at least a moderately interesting prospect but has so far failed to accomplish much of anything at the big-league level. In 93 games over parts of the last two seasons, he's hit just .215/.260/.324. A .214/.302/.339 line in 14 games for Triple-A Indianapolis hardly suggests he's turned a corner, but the rebuilding Pirates have little reason not to let him work on his game at the big-league level.

Sent down by Pirates
Tucker was optioned to minor-league camp Wednesday.
Impact
Tucker dealt with a bruised thumb earlier this spring but still appeared in eight Grapefruit League games. The 24-year-old hit .174 with two extra-base hits, one RBI, one run, one walk and six strikeouts this spring, and he'll likely begin the regular season with Triple-A Indianapolis.

Returns to action Friday
Tucker (thumb) started at shortstop Friday against Toronto and went 1-for-2 with a double.
Impact
The game action was Tucker's first since he suffered a thumb injury March 1. He registered a pair of 100-plus mph exit velocities Friday, an area in which he's looking to improve. In 2020, his exit velocity (83.1 mph) and barrels performance (1.7 percent) were among the worst in baseball. Tucker is likely behind Kevin Newman (hamstring) and Erik Gonzalez in the competition for the starting shortstop job, but at least he's seeing time at his natural position instead of learning on the fly in the outfield, like he did last summer.

Back hitting again
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Tucker (hand) has been cleared to resume all hitting activities, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
Impact
Tomczyk didn't reveal whether Tucker is still facing any limitations with his fielding, but considering the 24-year-old is dealing with a bruise on his left (non-throwing) hand, he shouldn't be sidelined for too much longer. Tucker has been held out of the Pirates' Grapefruit League lineup since he was scratched with the hand contusion ahead of a March 3 game against the Rays.

Late scratch Wednesday
Tucker has been scratched from Wednesday's Grapefruit League lineup against the Rays due to a left hand contusion.
Impact
Tucker was initially scheduled to start at shortstop against the Rays on Wednesday, but he'll no longer be able to do so due to his hand injury. Wilmer Difo will now bat second, while Oneil Cruz will take over at shortstop while batting fifth. It's not yet clear when Tucker will be able to return to action.
