Optioned to Triple-A
The Nationals optioned Henry to Triple-A Rochester on Saturday.
Impact
Despite tossing two scoreless innings on Friday, Henry has recently struggled since coming off the injured list May 28 and will be demoted to Rochester. Through 12 innings, the 26-year-old recorded a 6.00 ERA, 1.67 and 13:6 K:BB. Washington has yet to announce who will replace Henry on the 26-man active roster.

Back from injured list
The Nationals activated Henry (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Thursday, Spencer Nusbaum of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Henry has been out since mid-April with a right rotator cuff strain. He yielded two runs (one earned) with a 4:1 K:BB over five rehab innings with Triple-A Rochester and averaged 94.1 mph with his four-seamer, which is up a bit from his 93.7 mph average before he got hurt. Henry could work his way into high-leverage spots in the Nationals' bullpen, but he will likely pitch in middle relief initially.

Kicking off rehab assignment
Henry (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Rochester this weekend, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.
Impact
Henry is ready to pitch in games again after missing more than a month of action with a right rotator cuff strain. He will likely require at least a few rehab outings before rejoining the Nationals' bullpen before the end of May if all goes well.

Begins throwing
Henry (shoulder) played catch Saturday, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.
Impact
Saturday marks the first time Henry has done any sort of throwing since he landed on the injured list Monday with a right rotator cuff strain. He said afterward that he felt good while throwing and remains optimistic that his stay on the injured list will be brief.

Shelved with rotator cuff strain
The Nationals placed Henry on the 15-day injured list Monday due to a right rotator cuff strain.
Impact
Henry may have been pitching through the injury during his most recent appearance in Sunday's 8-6 win over the Brewers. He spotted just four of his 12 pitches on the afternoon for strikes and failed to retire either batter he faced while serving up a game-tying three-run home run to Gary Sanchez. The severity of Henry's injury is unclear, but the reliever won't be available until at least the final week of April.

Melts down in relief duty
Henry (0-1) allowed one unearned run on three hits and a walk across one-third of an inning Wednesday against the Phillies.
Impact
Henry opened the season with back-to-back scoreless outings, but he had a rough showing in this one and gave up the game-winning hit to Justin Crawford. Through three outings and 2.1 innings so far, Henry owns a 2:2 K:BB, but the fact that he's allowed four hits already is far from promising.

Not in high-leverage mix
Henry gave up a hit and a walk in a scoreless ninth inning during Monday's win over the Phillies. He struck out one.
Impact
The right-hander entered the game with the Nationals cruising to a 13-2 rout. Henry's made two appearances so far, and both came in blowouts -- he also delivered a scoreless inning in Saturday's 10-2 loss to the Cubs. Henry was viewed as potentially part of the closing picture coming into the season alongside Clayton Beeter, but his early usage suggests he's a long way from a high-leverage role.

Wrapping up solid spring
Henry has posted a 3.86 ERA and 6:3 K:BB over 4.2 Grapefruit League innings this spring.
Impact
The 26-year-old right-hander made his MLB debut in 2025, producing a 4.27 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 52:32 K:BB over 52.2 innings. Despite those pedestrian numbers, Henry is expected to fill a high-leverage role in the Nationals' bullpen to begin the 2026 campaign, although he appears to be behind Clayton Beeter in the pecking order for save chances.

Makes spring debut
Henry (back) struck out two batters in a perfect inning of relief Tuesday in the Nationals' 6-1 win over the Cardinals in Grapefruit League play.
Impact
Despite closing the past season on the injured list while recovering from a back strain, Henry appears to be under no restrictions during the early weeks of spring training. The Nationals head into the 2026 season without an obvious option to close games, and Henry should have the opportunity this spring to stake his claim to a late-inning role. While Henry collected two saves and nine holds over his 57 relief appearances for Washington last season, his peripherals (4.69 SIERA, 8.3 K-BB%, 31.7 GB%) were mostly underwhelming.

Done for season with back strain
The Nationals placed Henry on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a back strain.
Impact
The injury will end Henry's season, but he should be recovered early on in the offseason. Henry became a high-leverage reliever for the Nationals' this season, though that had more to do with the team's lack of other options than his performance. He finished with a 4.27 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 52:32 K:BB over 52.2 innings, picking up two saves and 10 holds along the way.

Steps in for second save
Henry notched a save against the Cubs on Saturday, allowing one hit and striking out one batter in a scoreless ninth inning.
Impact
Jose Ferrer had recorded each of Washington's previous five saves coming into Saturday, but he was summoned in the eighth frame to face the top of Chicago's order. That left the ninth inning for Henry, who worked around a one-out Cubs single to close out the contest. Henry has held the opponent scoreless in nine of his past 10 appearances, though he gave up three runs in his lone poor outing during that stretch. Ferrer remains the likely top option for saves in the Nationals' bullpen, but Henry appears to be next in line when Ferrer isn't available for the ninth.
