Impact Poteet was rocked for five runs while throwing 68 pitches over 2.2 innings in Sunday's blowout loss to the Reds and apparently came out of the appearance with a shoulder problem. It's not clear how long he might be sidelined.

Joining big-league club The Orioles recalled Poteet from Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday.

Impact Poteet joined Baltimore via a trade with the Cubs in late March, and the veteran righty will now get a chance to debut with his new club. Poteet has been used as both a reliever and a starter in his major-league career, and he started four of the five regular-season games in which he appeared with the Yankees last year, posting a 2.22 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 16:8 K:BB over 24.1 innings. Poteet had been working as a reliever in Norfolk since joining the Orioles' organization, and he tossed three innings in his most recent outing April 17. He could provide bullpen depth while up with Baltimore, as Kyle Gibson -- who is making his fourth minor-league start with High-A Aberdeen on Sunday -- is a candidate to be called up the next time Baltimore has an open spot in its rotation, per Jake Rill of MLB.com.

Impact Poteet was DFA'd by Chicago on Thursday but will reclaim a 40-man roster spot upon joining the Orioles. The 30-year-old righty made five appearances (four starts) for the Yankees last season, during which he posted a 2.22 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with a 16:8 K:BB across 24.1 innings. He'll begin his tenure with the O's in the minors, but the number of injuries Baltimore is dealing with in its pitching staff keeps the door open for Poteet to make a spot start down the line.

Cut from 40-man roster The Cubs designated Poteet for assignment Thursday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.

Impact Poteet was acquired from the Yankees over the offseason in the Cody Bellinger trade, but he was sent to the minors in early March and is now off the 40-man roster. He could draw interest via trade or waivers from a club in need of a swingman.

Impact Poteet struggled to find his footing this spring, giving up four earned runs over 3.1 innings. He'll head to Iowa to begin the 2025 campaign but is certainly capable of working his way back into the majors after turning in a 2.22 ERA over 24.1 regular-season frames with the Yankees last year.
