Impact Van Eyk was called up to the major-league roster Friday, tossing a scoreless inning in the team's 8-1 victory over Seattle that night. The right-hander didn't appear in either of the team's two following contests, and he'll now wait for his next shot with the big-league club.

Impact He's grabbing the roster spot vacated by Simeon Woods Richardson, who was designated for assignment. Van Eyk last pitched for Buffalo on Sunday, throwing four innings in a start, so he is rested and will give the Toronto bullpen some long relief protection.

Impact Van Eyk tossed two scoreless relief innings in his major-league debut last week and is back for another opportunity. The 27-year-old has made 13 starts at Buffalo this season, so he is capable of giving the Blue Jays' bullpen some length.

Receives first big-league call-up The Blue Jays selected Van Eyk's contract from Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.

Impact Van Eyk will provide the Blue Jays with some extra coverage in the bullpen heading into Sunday's series finale in San Diego and will be making his MLB debut if/when he gets into a game. The 27-year-old righty has mostly served in a starting role at Buffalo this season, logging a 3.79 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 56:25 K:BB across 78.1 frames.

Impact Lazaro Estrada was the pitcher promoted in the immediate wake of Ponce's injury, but he's unlikely to be used as anything more than a long reliever. Van Eyk is on turn at Triple-A Buffalo, and he looked good in his season debut Tuesday, allowing one run over four innings with a 5:1 K:BB. The 27-year-old right-hander isn't yet on the 40-man roster, so an additional move would need to be made to open up a spot, but with Ponce expected to miss more than two months he could be shifted to the 60-day IL to make room.

Impact He should be nearing a return to High-A Vancouver. Van Eyk underwent Tommy John surgery in September of 2021. He has a chance to be a starting pitcher long term if he can throw more strikes than he did pre-injury (11 percent walk rate at High-A in 2021).
