Recalled from Triple-A The Blue Jays recalled Van Eyk from Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Impact Van Eyk tossed two scoreless relief innings in his major-league debut last week and is back for another opportunity. The 27-year-old has made 13 starts at Buffalo this season, so he is capable of giving the Blue Jays' bullpen some length.

Impact After making just one appearance on Friday since being called up on June 12 by the big-league club, Van Eyk will make his way back to Triple-A. The 27-year-old recorded a solid two innings of work, allowing just one hit and one hit batsman, while striking out one batter as well. Toronto recalled Brendon Little to take Van Eyk's spot on the active roster.

Receives first big-league call-up The Blue Jays selected Van Eyk's contract from Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.

Impact Van Eyk will provide the Blue Jays with some extra coverage in the bullpen heading into Sunday's series finale in San Diego and will be making his MLB debut if/when he gets into a game. The 27-year-old righty has mostly served in a starting role at Buffalo this season, logging a 3.79 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 56:25 K:BB across 78.1 frames.

Could be rotation option Van Eyk could be the pitcher called up to replace Cody Ponce (knee) in the big-league rotation, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.

Impact Lazaro Estrada was the pitcher promoted in the immediate wake of Ponce's injury, but he's unlikely to be used as anything more than a long reliever. Van Eyk is on turn at Triple-A Buffalo, and he looked good in his season debut Tuesday, allowing one run over four innings with a 5:1 K:BB. The 27-year-old right-hander isn't yet on the 40-man roster, so an additional move would need to be made to open up a spot, but with Ponce expected to miss more than two months he could be shifted to the 60-day IL to make room.

Rehabbing in Dunedin Van Eyk (elbow) has struck out eight while allowing one earned run in seven innings across two rehab starts for Single-A Dunedin.

Impact He should be nearing a return to High-A Vancouver. Van Eyk underwent Tommy John surgery in September of 2021. He has a chance to be a starting pitcher long term if he can throw more strikes than he did pre-injury (11 percent walk rate at High-A in 2021).
