Assigned to Triple-A Williams will begin the season at Triple-A Durham, MLB.com reports.
Impact Williams, 21, slashed .256/.353/.469 with 20 home runs and 33 stolen bases at Double-A Montgomery in 2024 and will move up to Durham to start this season. The shortstop has a chance to debut in 2025 if things go well in the International League.

Doubles off Crochet Williams went 1-for-4 with a double against the Red Sox in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game.
Impact Williams got the chance to start at shortstop while hitting fifth in the order. He faced Garrett Crochet in the second inning and fell behind 0-2 in the count, but laced a double to left field that landed just before the wall. Williams is a candidate for a mid-season promotion to the majors and has gone 2-for-13 with three strikeouts and two walks so far in spring training.

Boosted to Triple-A The Rays promoted Williams to Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, Ben Badler of Baseball America reports.
Impact The 20-year-old shortstop has been lighting it up in High-A Bowling Green recently with a .306/.390/.605 slash line since the beginning of July. The Rays are so confident in Williams' performance, in fact, that they will have him skip Double-A and head straight to Triple-A. Williams is a long-shot to reach the majors this season, but if his bat translates well into a higher level of competition, he could make his MLB debut next year.

Raking in July Williams is hitting .412 with four home runs, 10 strikeouts and seven walks in nine July games for High-A Bowling Green.
Impact The 24.4 percent strikeout rate he has posted over this hot stretch is an encouraging mark for Williams, who has a 29 percent K-rate in 64 games for the Hot Rods. A standout defensive shortstop, Williams also has plus power and above-average speed, so he has a high fantasy ceiling if he can keep the strikeouts in an acceptable range.

Impact Known for his plus power and plus defense at shortstop, Williams' one shortcoming is his propensity to strike out. He had a 32.1 percent strikeout rate at Single-A last year and has a 31 percent strikeout rate this season. However, the quality of his contact (33.8 Hard%, 9.2 Soft%) has been strong. Williams excels at getting the ball in the air (38.5 GB%) to the pull side (48.1 Pull%), and his defense should allow him to play regularly in the majors.
